The rooms could use some rehab, the location is excellent, you can walk anywhere. Internet is pretty iffy. Breakfast buffet was excellent and service was great.

We visited the De Vere University Arms Hotel for afternoon tea with a view to staying here in the future. The afternoon tea was served in the bar overlooking Parkers Piece, a lovely expanse of parkland which was full of people relaxing on a warm Summer's day. The bar itself was comfortable, with leather sofas and characterful surroundings. Service was attentive and friendly. The afternnon tea was excellent value at £14.50 for two and consisted of an assortment of tasty sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, together with small pieces of fruit cake and chocolate brownies. There was a choice of loose-leaved teas and plenty of hot water for refills.

Whilst there, we had a look at an executive double room overlooking Parkers Piece. We were told that the room was soon to be re-furbished, but we would be happy to stay there as it was perfectly comfortable, clean and of a similar standard to other De Vere hotels we had stayed at.

We are looking forward to visiting the hotel again sometime soon,

Certainly very well located. Staff is not very helpful, though and they do not clean too much--toilettes, doors, windows...were dirty.

Good bits: great location, impressive exterior, sumptuous communal rooms, excellent breakfast.

Bad bits: horrible poky little room, too hot, limescale in the bathroom, constant noise, awful view, couldn't sleep due to noise/ventilation system, car park far too small, massively over-priced.

Room Tip: For the best rooms, try another hotel.

I expected the rooms to be in need of a refurb from the other reviews here. However, I was disappointed with the obvious lack of cleaning the rooms receive. Skirting boards, carpet around the skirting boards and plugs covered in a think layer of dust. The bathroom was also poorly cleaned, (pictures on trip advisor are representative of the room I was given, (room 202). The carpet was thread bare, and the skiting board was loose from the wall, but the bed linen was clean.
Another customer had completed a comments card from 11th May which was still on the table in the room when I left on the 17th May. I gave my feedback at reception on leaving the hotel and also mentioned this comments card, he said he would retrieve the card, but I suspect it may still be there.
Breakfast was good, but lager in the bar tasted less than fresh.
Trip advisor gave a good picture of what I should expect, but I decided to stay anyway as the price was lower than similar rated hotels in Cambridge. Overall the worst hotel I have stayed at in few years, and I would not recommend this hotel.

The overall appearance of hotel is fairly different from what you can see online :) the picture here is also of the 'rear-side' of the hotel, and the lawn is not a part of it.
Rooms were quite cramped, and bathrooms were not refurbished in some time. So when I sit on the table to work on my laptop, the chair touched the bed.
Food was okayish, not too bad, but not great either - atleast for vegetarians.
