I have stayed in De vere hotels for the last 15yrs and always been more than satisfied. This is without exception the crumiest hotel I have ever stayed. Tatty beyond words. Booked the Queen Suite for 2 nights at over £400 it ammounts to legal theft. Wrote a letter of complaint got reply saying they were well aware of the fact the hotel in dire need of a refurb.

Arrived mid afternoon, mid-week in October. Parked easily underneath the hotel, checked in to a nice comfortable room (possibly very slightly dated but extremely nice) overlooking the green - having been upgraded. A short walk and into the centre of Cambridge which was ideal. Great breakfast the next morning - wife had lovely Eggs Benedict - in lovely function room again overlooking the green. Overall impression was of a nice hotel with attentive staff, in close proximity to all the attractions, at a very good rate. One set of parents are staying at New Year and we would expect them to have a thoroughly enjoyable time in a great setting.

We booked this hotel in 2010 for our guests when we were getting married in one of the colleges, thinking that the parents, having traveled from overseas, deserves to stay at decent accommodation. It turned out, those guests who chose to stay in student dorms actually fared parents.

First, my poor parents had to carry all of their heavy luggage (they had two big suitcase for their one-month trip abroad) up the stairs, to reach the life, then up more stairs to get to the room. There was no disabled facility, which I am sure is illegal these days. None of staff offered to help and just walked passed us indifferently.

The rooms were very small with extremely poor ventilation. It was one of the warmest summer in England, and the windows in the rooms don't open. Both sets of my guests were so hot they couldn't sleep the night before the wedding, unfortunately, they were my parents and the bridesmaids. Along with some special guests flying all the way from France to attend the wedding.

At check out, they charged the full amount of the room on the credit card that was supposed to be used as guarantee only, for a room that has already been paid for. They then refused to ratify the situation, citing that it was a Sunday so their accountants don't work. They would only be able to refund the money on Monday.

Over all, it was extremely unprofessional and it was possibly the worst experience we've ever had in a hotel.

I cannot believe they dare to call themselves a four star hotel.

Spent a lot of money for three rooms over a weekend for a family reunion. Granted that the hotel upgraded one of us on request, so well done for that, however due to "housekeeping issues" we couldn't get into one of the rooms until almost 5 pm! Booked on the promise of a PLaystation being available for the kids, strangely all of them were broken! Despite the fact that we had checked the previous week that they were available.
As others have said, the hotel is desperately in need of updating, with peeling wallpaper, ripped curtains and peeling paint throughout the accommodation areas.
University Green seems to be the after club rutting area, so please bear this in mind if you get a park facing room, this is due to the hotel being situated alongside the main "club n pub" road in Cambridge city centre.
Sunday morning breakfast was a nightmare. Talking to staff it seems that the hotel relies on a lot on youngsters, who it seems visit the clubs adjacent to the hotel and ring in sick! This led to a lot of empty platters, long queues and hungry guests! Little sympathy from the rather curt reception staff though.
Good position, but really needs investment to get anywhere near its claimed four stars!

The hotel is in a good position for visits, note the tight car park underneath is £16 per day first come first served. Space on ground floor.
Food - could not fault. Oh forgot. My chunky chips were slightly under-cooked but could not be bothered to say.
Room is great and comfortable.
Picture on website is misleading as the depicted field is to the side of the hotel and is a communal / playing field. The front of the hotel is on Regent Street although not that noisy. Hotel has no grounds.
We'd use again. We used the Sunday Times Perfect Sundays offer and it worked. Twice we have used that offer.

Room Tip: Not facing Regent Street

Stayed here for 2 nights in October 2011. Hotel is OK, but does have a decent location in Cambridge town centre.

Booked a room for 1 and single room was pretty small. Small bed which seemed to roll around the room a bit. Room and bathroom were clean and reasonably well equipped.

Breakfast was ok. Buffet style cooked breakfast was fine. Pastries seemed a bit past their best.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Car park was cramped and in short supply.

Ensure you check with reception that your booked room actually is available for your stay. I booked 2 weeks in advance only to arrive and park up in their £16 a day car park and check in only to find they had plumbing problems in my room and my booking was cancelled - but they had secured me a room in a nearby hotel which was 1 star lower - bad move as I already prepaid. After asking for an explanation at reception their duty manger was called down to explain (I only had 1 hr to get to my University conference and time was running out). The attitude of their duty manger was bad – She could not care less and management did not have the foresight to call me or email me before arrival to warn me (I am UK based).
I found my other hotel (Best Western) nearby and it was great with free car parking - conference just made time wise - but what a circus. Lost money on the booking.
Avoid the Cambridge Arms Hotel. Does not care for it customers and exhibits carefree management that wipe their feet on you - typically arrogant. Try Oxford – much more friendly place.

Room Tip: Dear all, Ensure you check with reception that your booked room actually is available for your stay...
