Arrived at tea time on Sunday 7th April and asked for a double room. Staff at reception were lovely and we were quickly accommodated in a king size bedded room overlooking the park. Nothing was too much trouble. Albeit the hotel may require some decorating it is really charming. The bed was extremely comfortable. Drinks and biscuits, in the room, were really nice. Staff were really attentive at breakfast today and the food was really good. Would definitely consider staying in the future.

This is by far the worst hotel i've ever stayed in, i stayed in nicer cheap hostel rooms in Asia and South America. The room was tiny, we literally could not open our small (hand luggage size) case on the floor as there was not enough space. The bathroom was dirty, including was appeared to be dried blood stains on the back of the bathroom door. Seriously outdated decor, the whole hotel needs some serious attention.

We only stayed one night fortunately afetr a friends wedding. The breakfast was mediocre btu certainly nothing spectacular. On checkkout we complained about the dirty conditions and we given a 50% reduction in price, however, i would still certainly never stay there again or recommend it to anyone else.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights at Easter to show our children the colleges. Took two rooms, a twin for the kids and a double for my wife and I. We rejected the first double room we were offered. It was so small the door hit the bed as one entered. It was a dark, squalid little room with an overlong duvet tucked under the mattress at the bottom; if you had laid on the bed your feet would have been higher than your head! We were offered a free upgrade to an Executive room without hesitation. The Exec room was bigger and brighter, but was still very tired decoratively; a messy gap in the dado rail where the trouser press should have been, non-matching wallpaper patches poorly applied and peeling in various places. The plug did not stop water draining from the bath, no extraction in the bathroom. Nice crisp duvet and clean sheets though and the hotel is in a perfect location for spending a weekend in Cambridge. On site parking (first come first served) and very close to the centre. We arrived a few hours early and were able to check in. The staff were friendly and polite, particularly in Reception and Parkers(?) Bar. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in our rooms, excellent scrambled egg! Room service did not replace the door tag to order breakfast for the second day in either of our rooms so I had to hand write a note and jam it in our door! Worth it for a good breakfast! Good location but needs a lot of money spent on it.

Dear 110phillipM

Thank you so much for your recent review and your wonderful sentiments in relation to my teams being helpful and polite. Nothing gives me a greater sense of pride.
I'm delighted that my front desk team upgraded you without hesitation and you enjoyed your room service, however remind saddened that you where not entirely happy with your room.
It is true that areas of our hotel require refurbishment. I'm happy to report that these plans are already underway.

Thank you again; hopefully I may be afforded the opportunity of welcoming you back to the University Arms very soon.

For the past ten years I have recommended this hotel to overseas visitors. I would guess this has equated to 5-10 rooms per year for each year. For the same period I have arranged to meet associates there, use the restaurant and sat over tea to plan the business trip. I have always parked in the car park for free.
Imagine my surprise and annoyance when they wanted to charge me £16.00 to park for a couple of hours last month. This was especially annoying as 6 people from overseas were staying there – arguably because I had introduced their organisation to this hotel. We went elsewhere and I parked at Queen’s Anne Terrace for about £2.00.

There was no discussion, no wavering and no understanding that I would stop recommending this hotel.

Dear KC_cambs
I would like you clarify your sentiments.

You have chosen to grade our hotels value and service as terrible, due to my team making you aware that our car parking faculties are changeable?

May I suggest that you have just written this review in anger and perhaps even spite, most certainly not in keeping with the spirit of writing a balanced and helpful critique?

I only point this out as if you truly believed the service and value to be terrible surely you would not be in the position of recommending our hotel at all?

I am grateful to point out that that your statement that my team would change you £16 for a few hours is simply untrue. Our car parking tariff is clearly stated as £8 day rate and £16 for overnight.

Regards

Matthew Morgan

Old, tired, broken down. I had a dripping shower head that could not be stopped that kept me awake all night. All the furniture was old scratched or falling apart. Staff didn't seem to care. Never followed up like they said. They finally moved me to a really small room, which was above the kitchen fans or so something which came on at 4.45am every morning. If I could have moved I would. Ill never stay again.

Stayed at this hotel for one night at Easter. The hotel is in a perfect location for spending a weekend in Cambridge. On site parking and close to the centre. We arrived very earlier and were able to check in as our room was ready. The room was fine, fab bed, plenty of space everything working but nothing special. All staff were efficient friendly and polite, however a relaxing Easter Sunday breakfast it was not. We were shown to our table and asked to order our food straight away, in fact I think we both did this before we had chance to sit down! We then selected our fresh fruit and cereal from a lovely selection set out in the buffet. Coffee arrived. So not to bad so far. But then our cooked food arrived before i was even half way through my fruit, I explained I was not finished and not ready for my eggs etc. I was told I would be ok as the food was on a hot plate!! The food was left on the side of the table and that was the end of the service!!!! Less I say it was cold by the time I got round to eating it. I didn't make a fuss at the time as I wanted a relaxed romantic start to my day - big regret. We plan on returning to Cambridge soon as it is such a lovely city but think I will be looking for another hotel. This one I have rated average but this is more about the building and its location.

Dear Sarah G,

I appreciate you taking the time to post your recent review, following your Easter break here at the University Arms. Thank you for your positive remark. I am very pleased that you enjoyed our central location, the "fab bed" and you found my team to be efficient, friendly and polite.

I am disappointed to learn that your overall experience at breakfast was not a positive one. We offer the service of having a freshly cooked breakfast made to order, to ensure variety and freshness. I apologise unreservedly that you did not find this to be the case.

Should you choose to stay with us again I would be grateful to be afforded the opportunity of overseeing your stay personally.

I am contactable by phone or email matthew.morgan@devere-hotels.com
Thank you once again and I remain hopeful for the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel in the not to distant future.

This is a very decent hotel to stay at if you are in Cambridge. The rooms looking into the main street are quiet. Nice lobby, even nicer breakfast area. Rooms are simple and small, but clean. Wifi is available in the lobby area. Food shop is close by which is helpful and a number of ethnic restaurants in the vicinity. It's a 5 minute taxi drive from the railway station.
