It was a perfect spot for a relaxing weekend away. They even left a anniversary card and goodies in the room for it. More expensive than some hotels but great for something special. Pool and facilities good and restaurant great for dinner.

Ambushed by 330 calories worth of warm cookie on arrival. You'll need that fitness centre! Hotel fantastic position but soulless. Breakfast wonderful but dining room dark and dreary, even on a sunny day.

Dear Elizabeth P
Thank you for your review. I was very sorry to read that you found our hotel soulless. I believe you misunderstood the reason for us offering the cookie on arrival, warm cookie on arrival as a warm welcome to the hotel, however we always offer a piece of fruit to those guest declining the cookie. I can only hope these negatives will not deter you from returning to the hotel as we look forward to welcoming you back.

This hotel is ideally located at the heart of the city centre, and quite close to a nature park. We found the staff to be very welcoming, the hotel very comfortable and the food was excellent.

We were fortunate enough to get a room with a balcony and an excellent view.

Overall I was delighted with our stay here, but I do feel it is long overdue for hotels like this to start offering free wi-fi to guests.

The spa / pool / gym area was very good but some essential repairs need doing in some areas, and some of the equipment needs replacing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony and nice view.

Thank you for your recent review, I was pleased to see that overall you enjoyed your stay, however sorry to know that you were not happy with the WiFi charges. We do offer complimentary use of our Business centre on the ground floor, with free use of our computers, printing and WiFi access. My apologies if this was not explained to you on check in.
Thank you for your kind comments about the food, the hotel in general and mostly about our team members, I know that they will be happy to know that their hard work does not go unnoticed.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge soon.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights in May and had a top floor room with a balcony which was booked in advance at a discounted rate. Arrival was straight forward and there were plenty of parking spaces. Check in was smooth and you can check in from 3pm.

The room with a balcony was a bit small but the views over the river were excellent. The room facilities were modern, there was a mini fridge with chargeable items and two complimentary bottles of water. There was also tea and coffee making facilities.

The location of the hotel is excellent and is very convenient right in the heart of Cambridge. Punting takes place on the river which is right on the hotel's doorstep and shopping and restaurants are also within easy reach.

Would recommend Cau restaurant, Yo! Sushi and Alimentum if eating out! There is also a Jamie's Italian and a Loch Fyne restaurant nearby.

We didn't try the restaurant at the hotel in the evening so cannot comment but the buffet breakfast was excellent with good variety and food quality. We found the hotel bar to be fairly average and service also sometimes lacking. The cocktails were not well made and the indoor bar area was dark and lacked atmosphere. The hotel's outdoor seating/bar area next to the river is excellent but obviously this relies on the good old British weather!

Overall, would recommend the hotel but mainly for the location. Would avoid paying the full price as I don't think this would provide value for money.

Room Tip: River facing rooms preferable.

Dear Litoreus
Thank you for your review. I was pleased to know that overall you enjoyed your stay with us, however I was very sorry to read that despite this and recommending us, you would not reconsider us again on full paying basis.
Also, my most sincere apologies for the poor level of service received at the bar on this occasion. I will pass on your comments to the Bars Manager for him to take immediate action.
In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the not too distant future.

Stayed here for one night. We took our elderly mother's for a treat. The hotel offers a good location close to the city centre, and overlooks the river Cam. Due to the location, you should check upon 'How to get there' as you could quite easily get lost within the city centre, as the hotel is down at the end of a cul-de-sac. Having said that the location means that it's nice a quiet. The hotel is beginning to show its age, and would benefit from a makeover. The rooms are nice enough, although the room in which our mum's stayed was a little small. Our room, which overlooked the river, was bigger. Both bathrooms, were too small, you could barely get two people in there at once, so for a big family this could prove problematic. The room facilities were adequate although the TV did not offer a full range of English TV channels.
We ate in the main restaurant, which again overlooked the river. The menu offered a reasonable range of dishes, to suite most people. There were no children present, so I do not know what food would have been on offer for younger tastes. The restaurant staff in general were good, and well mannered. We were only one of the first few tables to be seated and were surprised that they had run out of certain types of rolls. Our meals were served within a reasonable time frame and were hot.
We had booked direct with Hilton and are a Hilton Honours member, so we were given a special deal. That said we did have to query the bill as they had over charged us for the evening meal, to the tune of £100.The reception staff were happy to review the bill and realised their mistake, so all ended to everyone's satisfaction. There is an overnight charge for parking in the hotels car park , which could add up if you were to stay for several days. We queried this and had the charges removed, so beware. We were not offered any complementary newspapers. The Living well fitness suite is well appointed with sufficient space. We did not try the pool or Health suite.
The hotel is generally clean and tidy, although a bit stuck in the eighties and could benefit from some modernisation, but it fits well within the general appearance of the city centre. The river punt 'Cruise' is worth the cost as it gives you a sight of all the colleges and architectural heritage of Cambridge, and you benefit from the guides knowledge. Despite the generally poor spring weather to cruise was nice enough even in late afternoon. Plenty of tourists from all over the world, as you would expect. Keep an eye out for the large number of cyclists especially in the city centre, as most university students seem to have one, and not all of them alert you to their presence.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay and we would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Higher floor and river front view should be desired.

We enjoyed the first visit so when we had the opportunity to go back we couldn't wait. Hotel is tucked back along a river and a meadow. If you are lucky you will wake up to the swans swimming along banks and it is just the most peaceful settings. Breakfast is great. It has just about everything you could want and more. We loved the chocolate muffins.

We did do a lot of walking even though we had a car you just can't find places to park. We walked to the Botanic Gardens too. But have been told you can get a bus pass where you can hop on and off. The Fitzwilliam Museum is right around the corner. Ir reminded me of the Cairo Museum but of course they had art work from all over the world. The churches are beautiful and while walking you get the chance to see back in the church yards which I found just beautiful.

10 of us (five couples) all celebrating birthdays came here for a weekend.I was a little wary having read the mixed reviews. Our rooms were good, and clean. All the staff were lovely and very attentive. We ate in the Brasserie on the Friday night and the food was good and as a big party all arrived together with no problems. The meal inclusive deal does have a £25 per head limit on which wasn't clear at booking but the menu choice was extensive and personally I preferred the bigger choice and paying a bit more if we wanted something more expensive but it would be better to know about this before.
The swimming pool/spa area was also fine- i noted some comments about the pool size but is similar to many other hotel size pools- my only comments here is that the changing rooms are a bit 'tired' and it could definitely do with some new fluffy towels! but they were OK.
The location of the hotel is superb and everything is within walking distance so we did not have to worry about taking the car out.Its premium position in Cambridge is unique.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view- if you want a balcony this has to be requested or else its just the juliet typ...
