The Doubletree (known more commonly in former times as the Cambridge Garden House) is certainly the best-located hotel in Cambridge, sitting on the banks of the River Cam and very near to all the city's shops, museums, colleges etc. SInce coming under the control of the Hilton chain it has been spruced up a fair bit and the standard rooms are certainly improved from when it was a Moat House hotel. The breakfast we had was excellent, though we ate out for dinner.
What has to be said is that it is a very expensive option, and this is a hotel charging London rates. I was particularly annoyed to have to pay £15 for the use of the car park for 24 hours (this is the discounted rate for residents, otherwise it is £21!). This did not seem to me mentioned when booking using the hotel website and is frankly outrageous when you are already paying through the nose just to stay there.
It is certainly a good hotel, but you need to understand that you are likely on average to pay around £200 per night to stay there when you have added things like parking into the equation. I think that's an awful lot of money!More
