“The best in Cambridge but at a price”
Reviewed 15 June 2009

Just back from a weekend in Cambridge which I know quite well but have never stayed at this hotel. The location is awesome, the best in the city. I hadn't paid extra for a river view room but in fact we had that albeit sideways on. The room was a very generously size and extremely well equipped with tea making things, ironing board and iron, etc. There was a wedding reception near us and also a college 'May' ball and we were worried about the terrific noise when outside the room but it was very well glazed. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly. We used the pool which is in the adjacent health club. Strangely there were no robes provided but a phone call brought us two lovely white fluffy gowns immediately. Restaurant food excellent and good value, as was the breakfast. We would definitely stay there again. It's just a pity it's so expensive even if you book online. Still with a position like that, they can charge what they like.

Stayed here for a wedding, the reception was at the hotel too. The food was OK - nothing special. We stayed in a posh ground floor room with a great view (the hotel is in a good location) but our room was DIRTY! Like so many English hotels.... There was quite a bit of dust in some parts of the room so it looked like bits of it hadn't been cleaned for ages, and no one had cleaned behind the bathroom door for I don't know how long. Ew. So for a four star hotel or whatever it's meant to be, we weren't impressed. Breakfast was good though.

Went for a romantic get away on the last bank holiday weekend in May for our anniversary. I booked the "Super Sunday" for £135 for a nights stay with dinner and breakfast. I rang ahead and was told that on the Sunday in the restaurant was "À la carte" in the evening and a carvery during the day. You can imagine our disappointment when we arrived at dinner to see a carvery buffet. We left swiftly and luckily we managed to get a table at a local fish restaurant nearby.

The hotel is in a really good location and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our room and bathroom were fantastic and we had great views of the river. Parking is an additional £15 for 24 hours. The breakfast was good but again another buffet.

We would definitely stay again, but I'd say it’s not quiet the Hilton.

I stayed at the Doubletree Cambridge over the bank holiday weekend and was very pleased with every aspect of my stay.

When we arrived at the hotel an hour early our room was not ready, so we sat in the impressive little garden area overlooking the river and the concierge looked after our bags. At 3pm when check in began our room was still not ready but we were offered complimentary drinks so waiting a little longer was no problem.

As we are Honours members we were upgraded to a 3rd floor room with a balcony overlooking the river and first impressions of the room were fantastic. The room was an adequate size but the extra's were fantastic including the Hotel Chocolat chocolates (Replaced every day!!!), several bottles of water and bathrobes. The only negative was the balcony had quite a few cobwebs but this was easy to solve.

During our stay we could have wanted for nothing, when we requested taxi's they were waiting for us, room service was swift and good quality and the reception sorted any queries out with ease.

The restaurant is a nice bright room and serves the normal Hilton breakfast (with a few little extra's) which is always a good standard. In the evening there is an option of a la carte or table d'hote menu and I can highly recommend the food. Good quality and service to match.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, you are overlooking the river with walks on your doorstep, but are only seconds from the centre of Cambridge.

I cannot mention the value for money on this hotel as the stay was a gift for my birthday but whatever the price this is a fantastic hotel to stay in where nothing seems to be a problem and the hotel itself is in a very good condition.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel in early May. We were upgraded to a room overlooking the river Cam. this gave us a great view of the river and the fields beyond.

the room was large. king size bed- really 2 twins pushed together with slight hole in the middle. tub with regular shower - great! compared to what we had at some other hotels. Clean - seemed to be fairly new. maybe remodeled since doubletree/hilton took it over. good location. very near town center. near punting and on -off bus.

bed came with duvet which was too hot. maid found us a blanket. AC was not on yet. window did open.

room had refrigerator. not much in it so used it for some of our snacks. no vending machines in hotel. snacks and soda etc available at the bar.

room could use a hutch to put suitcases on and to unpack clothes. there were some drawers in the closet but not that convenient and only one luggage rack - (all hotels always seem to give you only one.). asked for and received another one.

hotel had pool etc which we didn't check out.

breakfast was great. lots of choices.

hotel had a computer you could use but price was outrageous. 3.75 pounds for 15 minutes. they have internet hook up if bring own laptop - not sure of charge if any. we found free internet at student center almost across the street on the 3rd floor in the cafe.
