“Fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2009

Lovely hotel with friendly staff who were professional all the time whilst still being friendly and helpful. Location is brilliant, it was our first visit to Cambridge and the location made it easy to get to all the main attractions. Would definitely go back and definitely stay in same hotel. Rooms and hotel areas were lovely - clean, well maintained, beautifully decorated; but then it is newly refurbished so they should be. Pool and leisure areas were not quite as good as rest of the hotel - i would guess they haven't been completely refurbished to doubletree standard. Having said that they are still good - clean, well maintained and well staffed.
It is expensive, do I think it's worth the extra? Probably if you aren't on a budget.
Can't wait to go back!

We stayed here for my sisters hen weekend and it was lovely. they were very accomodating and the rooms were all together and fully equipt for all our needs. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast was particually good. only issue i have is having to pay an exta £15 a night to park, i would prefere that to be free or included in the price as an optional so you dont feel like your having to pay twice! but very good otherwise. I would deffinately reccomend it and stay again.

Yes, this hotel is virtually impossible to find without the assistance of state-of-the-art satellite technology and a navigator with the patience of a saint, but once you get there you realise just how central the location is. Despite being an unbearable grump by the time I arrived having had neither of the above navigational aids, I was very pleasantly surprised by the accommodation. Huge room, wonderful new bathroom, spotlessly clean and with a bonus balcony. Having read some other reviews, other visitors have baulked at the $15 parking charge, but in any big city parking in such a central location is at a premium and I reckon $15 for 24 hours is not bad really. Didn't partake of the breakfast, and as this is probably more of a business person's hotel, I didn't want to disrupt all those wage slaves with my glowing cambridgeshire holidaymaker's tan. Use of the small gym is a welcome addition and I got a chance to show off the tan at the pool anyway. Would definitely stay again - very quiet.

Just got back from this hotel and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The location of the hotel was perfect right next to the river Cam where you can take a punt, the sight seeing bus stopped a couple of hundred yards away from the hotel also. The hotel was within an easy stroll to all the colleges and the shopping center.
The rooms we had were spacious and modern with free spring water in the fridge alongside tea and coffee. The batroom was modern with plenty of good quality toiletries which got replenshinshed as we took are first lot out. On arrival you were given a homemade warm chocolate cookie which was a nice little touch. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. We shall definitely return again soon.

As the other reviews have said, this hotel is not cheap. Neither the building nor the rooms are what you would expect at this price point (I am typing this from a executive floor room at the Heathrow Hilton which cost me 50 GBP less than a standard room at the Doubletree Cambridge). I would describe the Doubletree's rooms as slightly more spacious and appointed than your standard Hampton Inn room, but less than the average Hilton. The breakfast was good, they often ran out of items if you weren't down there by 9am. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but there was a slight language barrier since English (American or otherwise) was not their first language.

Where this hotel shines is it's location. If I were to pick a spot to place a hotel in Cambridge, any spot, this would be it. It's less than a 20 minute walk to any Cambridge attraction, including King's College and fantastic Sunday open-air market. The views of the river Cam from the hotel are another highlight, and punts can be rented steps from the hotel's entrance. The hotel also provides a rare guaranteed parking spot in the city and has an in and out of the city route, by using Barton Road to get to the M11.

If you are looking for merriment, It's next door to "The Anchor", a nice pub with some nebulous connection to the origin of Pink Floyd. A second pub called The Granta is just across the river and features a fantastic outside deck and punt rental. The Fez night club, which seems to be a favorite of the the under 25 crowd, and The Fountain are an easy stumble away.

Although I enjoyed my 10 night stay, and would recommend the hotel, I think next time I will be in Cambridge, I will be returning to one of the many short term apartment rentals available in the city. The increase in square footage, more modern furnishing, and lower rates of the local apartments will hopefully compensate for the lack of river views.

Just visited the hotel for a short break. Used Honours Points so not sure what the price would have been. Reception was very polite and welcoming. They gave us a room overlooking the river with lovely views over the river and some colleges and the added entertainment factor of watching the punts go by and the occasional soaking!! As others have said, just water in mini bar but who wants a mini bar when there are so many excellent pubs nearby? 200 yards and you're right in the main colleges. Didn't turn on the TV so can't comment on the number of channels as others have pointed out an inadequacy there. But who on earth would watch TV when in this location?? On arrival they also said breakfast would be included in our booking which was an unexpected bonus. Most of these multi-national hotels have an obsession for Buffet style breakfasts so I usually go elsewhere for a proper freshly cooked breakfast that will be better and very much cheaper. However, as this was free I plucked up the courage to have it at the hotel. Just as I remember unfortunately but it was edible and no worse than any other hotel of this type. Others have commented on the noise but for our visit we certainly didn't have any and slept soundly with the patio door open as I like fresh air when I sleep. Someone has also commented that the toileteries were inadequate (only one piece of soap I think they said). We certainly had no such issue and if we did I would think a simple call to housekeeping would sort this. Only drawback was a £15 charge to use the car park but it was convenient and as it is nearly impossible to park a car in Cambridge was OK. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

rooms nice .. not five star but decent -sized , attractive and clean.. however the friendliness and efficiency of the staff were pretty amazing and made the stay there an altogether delightful experience. Fantastic location by the river ,easy parking and superb breakfast buffet. Can't wait to stay there again. If you don't like it here you're too hard to please !!
