“Excellent and friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 April 2012

We wanted a good solid hotel within easy walking distance of the centre of Cambridge and got exactly that. We also got exceptional service, The day before arriving (for a wedding) we realised time would be tight, so we asked for an early check in for our two rooms, and this was provided without fuss. The next day our son and his partner were slightly late down to breakfast, and the hotel staff took it in their stride, and still provided a cooked breakfast. The breakfasts were excellent, too, freshly cooked and better than many I've had in more expensive establishments. I'd strongly recommend this hotel.
Just one warning - don't park under the trees! Our car was heavily decorated with bird poo when we left - not the hotel's fault in any way, of course, but something to avoid if you can!

We stayed here for two nights. The location was very good as it looked over 'Parker's Piece' and the attractions were easily accessible from the hotel. We found the reception staff very friendly. The hotel was in very good decorative order throughout. It looked as though it had been, perhaps, newly decorated. The conservatory was a light and airy place to sit for coffee or a drink. There was a variety of food at breakfast and orders for cooked food were taken so that it was individually cooked for you and therefore not sat around in serving dishes. We were very pleased with our room. We had a wet room and although small, the bathroom was very well appointed with quite a different sink- not the usual standard wash basin. I thought the bathroom was brilliant. Our only niggle would be that the room did not have any drawer space so we lived out of our bag, which was fine for a short stay. We would certainly stay again.

Looking on-line for somewhere to stay which was centrally located to the main city centre brought up many options, however, few had the standard of this above average small to medium sized Best Western-owned hotel situated directly opposite 'Parker's Piece' and less than 2 minutes walk into the main shopping streets of Cambridge.
Even more crucially, it offered free car parking with ample spaces for all residents which was a bonus, given that the other main hotels in this area charged between £16 and £22 per day/night for this.

The room was absolutely spotless with very nice contemporary decoration, including a wet room shower en suite facility. Daily room servicing was to a very high standard.
As someone else mentioned on reviewing this hotel, the only down-side of our room was no wardrobe, just an open wall-mounted hanger and full-length vanity unit near the entrance door to the room, sufficient for overnight or very short stay but a bit inconvenient if staying longer with many items of clothing. (some other rooms do have wardrobes and may be slightly larger). However, this didn't spoil our stay as all staff were friendly, helpful, welcoming and exceptionally well presented.

There is a small but very neat bar and a rattan furnished atrium area where snacks could be eaten or where you could sit and relax.

The breakfast/dining room was large and had tables laid in traditional manner with a continental buffet room adjoining it and waiter/waitress service for cooked breakfast orders which arrived very quickly following order and were of good standard.
We didn't bother to dine-in at this hotel although the menu was tempting, but found it easier to dine out in Cambridge with its vast choice of eateries.

All-in-all, an very well organised, pleasant and very reasonably priced base from which to explore the many attractions of the area. I would use it again.

Room Tip: Request one with wardrobe and west or North-facing if possible have better views

We had a two night stay over Easter, we arrived early and was told there was no problem leaving the car, the car stayed in the same place all weekend as the hotel is a short stroll from all of Cambridge's attractions.
The reception staff were very helpful and informative, on what to do and see in Cambridge.
Breakfast was a wide choice, from full English served to your table, to a self service continental selection.
Our room was a good size with all the amenities of a modern hotel, they even had a hair dryer that worked!!

Room Tip: Try to book a room at the back of the hotel, as the road outside is a busy main road.

We stayed here for four nights and were incredibly impressed by ALL the friendly and relaxed -yet efficient staff. It makes such a difference...

The menu was varied and well presented. Wine was good but slightly on the pricey side -but nothing to detract from the overall five stars.

The rooms were more on the modern style rather than fluffy cosy -however overall the atmosphere was comfortable and comforting.

I would say -well done management but they were the one set of people we never saw -makes you think doesn't it?

We stayed at the Best Western Gonville Hotel early March for two nights, one night as part of cashing in our Tesco clubcard tokens for Best Western vouchers and as we love Cambridge, this was perfect. Hotel easy to find with satnav. Large free carpark, a huge bonus in Cambridge, Hotel is opposite a green common and within quick walking distance to historic centre. Room was pleasing, comfortable and breakfast hot and served quickly in a lovely dining room. We did not eat there in evening but menu looked good. Would certainly stay again. We have stayed at Crowne Plaza and I found this a bit too big and impersonal. Looking forward to returning.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was emmaculate. The breakfast was cooked to order and took only 10mins to arrive. Continental available too. This hotel is in walking distance of Cambridge which makes it ideal for sightseeing.Private car park is a god send(some hotels charge £16 per day). This hotel is opposite a park and pubs are a plenty! Only one negative for this hotel is there is no wardrobe, just a rail on the wall. I didnt like that!!Things you must do is visit one of the colleges,go on a punt and of course go shopping in the various shopping arcades. If you want a laugh go to the Anchor pub on Silver St and watch the punters on the river going round & round in circles!!LOL.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a wardrobe!!
