“Conveniently located, but noisy and altogether so-so”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

This hotel is conveniently located next to the Cam river, about 5 minutes walk from the city. The hotel is comprised of two separate buildings. I stayed in the one next to the road, which had a nice view, but was noisy.
As far as I know there are no lifts in the hotel, which is problematic if you have a problem carrying your suitcases 3 floors.
The room was smelly (mold?), but of reasonable size. Small TV, chairs, and a coffee pot were included.
Breakfast was rather minimal, especially if you don't fancy bacon and eggs (Note to hotel: A few vegetables would be nice).

There was limited choice of accommodation in Cambridge centre when we booked a room at Arundel House at short notice for Saturday 1st June. Its location was ideal for us as we were attending a wedding at Castle Hill with reception at the Galleria,so were only a few minutes walk from each point.
We arrived early so enjoyed a very reasonably priced, well cooked, meal in the dining bar while we waited for our room to become available (well in advance of the official check-in time of 15.00 hrs.
No problem with finding space for our car in the well laid out parking areas.
We were given a room in the 'Stables' just outside the rear of the main hotel, by the car park and found the room to be very clean, spacious, well equipped and quiet.
Our booking included a continental breakfast, but we opted to pay the extra £7.95 for a 'Full English' which was well presented, well cooked and plentiful, in addition to cereal, fruit etc.from the buffet.
The restaurant was quite busy mid-way through the opening time and we had to wait 10 minutes or so for a table, which when available was relaid while we collected cereal, but unfortunately we were forgotten about when we returned to the table (It didn't appear to happen to anyone else), so we did sit waiting to attract the attention of a member of staff. No proper apology was given.

Generally we found the staff polite and attentive an checking in and out painless.

Relatively good value for money at the internet booking discounted price and we would certainly stay again as the location is convenient and good.

Room Tip: We didn't see what rooms in the main building were like (although some are 'basement rooms...

We booked a room at Arundel House on Sat 1st June, the hotel itself is quite nice and the staff were very helpfull. The room we were given was at the top of the hotel on the third floor, there was no lift which was not a problem for us but certainly would be for older guests.
The room itself was quite a small attic room overlooking the rear carpark, it was quite clean but for £145 we would have expected a bigger room with a nicer view. Breakfast was continental which was very basic, a cooked bnreakfast was £7.99 extra.
All in all dissapointed with this hotel extremely overpriced for what is was. We would not stay there again.

We stayed one night and having read mixed reviews didnt know quite what to expect.Car park was good no problem with tight spaces, room was big , shower was very good powerful and hot
and bathroom was spotless.Reception staff were pleasant ,helpful and polite and waitress for evening meal was very attentive. Both our meals were very good and conservatory was excellent place to dine.Came in from A14,couldnt be easier.Brilliant position by river and park and so easy to get to sights and shops.Agree that continental breakfast should have a meat choice instead of just three cheeses.Stayed in annex which did not impress on first sight but inside was fine. All in all would use again .

Room Tip: Annex is away from road noise.

Came to Cambridge to attend a wedding at one of the colleges.
This hotel is very tired and over priced.
Free car parking is good, but the beds were not comfortable and the breakfast was terrible.
Not as good as other hotels in the city and a never visit again.
Which is sad as this stay left a bitter taste after a very good evening.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here

I stayed here for the first time in 2007 and now, in May 2013, it is as if time has stood still. Nice lobby and a cozy bar downstairs. From my room I had a view of the river and a nice park with a beautiful walk to the center of Cambridge. The room was small but clean and tidy. Continental breakfast was included in the price but eggs and bacon cost £ 7 extra. The room price is on the high side, but Cambridge is expensive. Pleasant and helpful staff.

Room Tip: Try to book a room in the "Coach House" behind the main hotel building. The rooms are much...

A disappointing stay, the hotel is not value for money although I do realise Cambridge is an expensive city.
Reception OK, but not friendly or particularly helpful.
Breakfast very average and not as good as other hotel in Cambridge.
This is my first and last visit.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel in Cambridge
