I see that complaints from one year ago echo what I experienced this August. They are obviously not being taken seriously or acted on by the owners and is clearly reflected in the staff (mostly charming young people) who lack leadership and purpose. The rate we paid we were certainly expecting a higher standard. The dated rooms, dirty stained tiles in showers, complicated security /room key system not being satisfactorily explained to newly arriving guests, complicated route to room, no offer of help with a bag (and a white haired lady) all led to a disappointing stay. White wine was continuously warm - even over 2 days of wedding guests and very hot weather. TV reception very poor on the most basic of channels. The fire exit from some rooms involved getting down on hands and knees and climbing through a hatch into another bedroom then out by some means - surely not acceptable in this day and age. Cooked breakfast extra charge outrageous. Toast cheap and nasty.
In short , for a hotel in such a prime location major TLC is required to entice many guests back.

Great location, very average bedroom, TV unable to watch as poor reception. Poor continental breakfast for the price. Usual cereals, yogurt and grapefruit then a choice of one roll OR one croissant OR two slices of cheap bread toasted. Cooked breakfast a further £8.00 /£9.00

This is not a hotel that you would book for a romantic getaway but it's a great place to stay if you want to be close to the centre of Cambridge without paying a fortune.

The rooms are unspectacular but clean. The staff are nice enough. There's plenty of parking to the rear. There's a nice view to front over the parks. Breakfast was adequate - we opted to save £7.50 and go for the free continental breakfast, which was fine.

Having been originally booked into the Ashley Hotel - its sister establishment - we decided to change to the Arundel House. Very hard to compare the two. The Ashley seems more like a B&B whereas the Arundel is a proper hotel, albeit a little faded.

Didn't match up to what was on the website, looks nice from outside untill you get allocated a tiny room in a barn out the back. Expensive for what it is. Expensive drinks. Good location by river.

From the front the hotel looks lovely and we were expecting the interior to be the same. I usually always come to this site to read the reviews as they are always so spot on, but for some reason didnt this time. The interior is okay - the carpets in the lobby area obviously chosen because they were going cheap or because they hide the dirt, either way were quite migraine inducing. Despite both my husband and I being slim and short the small double bed is the smallest I have ever come across - I spent the whole night hanging over the side and both my husband and I had to turn over at the same time to remain in it. Needless to say I didnt sleep a wink. So if any guest larger than a child wants a double bed I would make sure you check out the room first or book elsewhere. The room was incredibly dingy and I wouldnt have wanted to stay long in there - thought the bathroom was extremely clean, and had the bed been large enough it was actually quite comfortable.

Breakfast is okay, at least you wont overeat at the buffet as there isnt much to choose from and they only give you two croissants which are quite inedible. Must say I have much better food at home, but I was so looking forward to it! The conservatory was nice but again that carpet - the interior designer should be ashamed!

Shame as approaching the hotel you have high expectations, and the staff are very nice and efficient - however you do not get value for money at this place, and should I come back I would look for somewhere else to stay.

Don’t be fooled by the location promises, it is a good 10 – 15 minute walk into the town centre and as for being on the river bank, you would need to be a county standard cricketer to toss a ball into the water across the main road. However tempted you are to get a “riverside” room don’t. The road is busy and noisy, my double glazing was very ineffective, I was woken several times overnight and by 0530 lorries (and awful 2 stroke scooters) are trundling regularly along it.

At £120 for a very average room it’s about £40 overpriced, presumably exploiting tourists who are unlikely to return. It is the epitome of rip-off Britain at its worst and the sort of thing that gets the UK tourist industry such a dreadful reputation with visitors. My room had a TV with a screen that was smaller than my very cheap laptop, and had only 5 analogue channels which in this day and age with Freeview is pathetic. I was also rather taken by the strength of the air freshener in the bathroom, it was only the next morning after it had cleared that the smell of stale urine on the bathroom carpet became apparent. I mean who carpets round a lavatory, especially in a hotel?

The room price, in another rip off masterstroke, only included a very basic continental breakfast, a cooked breakfast was another (rip off) £8. This was not explained when I booked – the receptionist simply saying breakfast was included. This is not the convention in the UK where if a hotel says “breakfast included” it means being offered a full meal, not simply croissants and toast.

Plus point was the staff who were, on the whole, friendly.

A good visit now would have seen me staying here at least once a month for probably the next two years – sadly (for the Arundel) for £120 I know can get far better value than this elsewhere.

We went to Cambridge for a family reunion and had actually booked into another B&B on the same road but after finding the duvet there covered with hair (yuk!) we had to find somewhere else to stay quick. The Arundel was very clean, with comfy beds and a larg enough bathroom. The hotel was only 5 minutes walknfrom the centre along the lovely river path and our room overlooked the river and parklands. The breakfast was limited and did not serve whole milk - my husband didn't like the semi-skimmed on offer so was stuck with toast. Overall we enjoyed our clean, quiet stay.
