“You would recommend to friends and family”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

I stayed for one night for business reasons and as I do know the Cambridge area this review is strictly on the hotel alone.

A warm welcome was given and the staff are lovely. It is clean and even though it is on a main road, that looks quite shabby to be really honest, the hotel does not reflect any of that shabbiness. The hotel has lots of character, it is quaint but not ancient, and has a really good 'feel good factor'.

The rooms are lovely and spacious and the bathrooms are probably larger than average and really well heated. There are some very slight signs of wear and tear ( ie if you were a contestant on Four in a Bed) like peeling paint work in some patches and grooves that need filling etc, but to be honest that is just being fussy and I have probably watched that programme too often, so I was simply looking for things that others might rather than anything that actually was a problem. They provide bottled water, fresh fruit, tea and coffee etc in the rooms and a good range of toiletries in the bathroom. I had a balcony overlooking Parkers Piece, which was nice to open the doors and get some fresh air in the morning.

Breakfast is contintental and for a relatively small hotel gives a good spread of pastries, rolls, cheese and ham, cerials, toast, yoghurts, juices etc. Service again was good and really friendly.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any colleague, friend or family for a one or two night stay if visiting Cambridge. There is also a really good Turkish restaurant within a minutes walk and worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

We stayed at the regent for a weekend treat whilst visiting Cambridge. The Regent is classed as a 4* hotel, and we paid almost £300 for the two night stay so I was expecting some quality at least.

The Regent was clean and pleasant enough, however just not worth what we paid. The breakfast was only continental with no cooked option (bit poor for a 4* I thought), and the bar was staffed by untrained bar staff.

The hotel would be fine if it was just a bit cheaper, but for the prices they charged I just expected more!

2 night stay. Room overlooking acres of grass. Spotlessly clean, Bathroom very modern and functional. Central heating easy to control. Breakfast fine. Staff aimiable .Good lift. Computer friendly
A paragon of a hotel-not trying to be anything but fit for purpose and value for money.

We spent two nights here in July whilst we attended a wedding. The hotel insisted all bookings had to be for 2 nights over the weekend in question.
The Regent is ideally located close to the centre of the City, the parking is an absolute nightmare!!!

The building is quaint, our room could be described as cosy, there was very little space and seemed cramped. It was air conditioned, which over the weekend we stayed was most welcome. Never encountered any issue with the staff, they were polite and helpful, breakfast was fine. I neither enthused or despondent about the Regent. It was ok, if a tad expensive .........this is Cambridge.

Nice staff, nice room, the wifi works well and is reasonably priced. Also, I like that they give you 2 codes so you can connect your phone too.

The great reviews on tripadvisor and excellent photography led me into thinking a real treat was in store. And for £120 a night for a standard room you certainly expect a level of quality. The hotel has a lovely exterior and a great location just outside the centre. The staff were also lovely. However, it was just so small. The corridors are narrow, the standard room we were in was really tiny with the smallest double bed I've ever seen. And the bathroom was a huge disappointment - it just looked cheap and smelt of mildew. A real shame, because it has the potential to have much charm. I would certainly pay the extra and stay in the Hotel du Vin next time.

Room Tip: Definitely pay the extra for a larger room and ask for a park view

The Region Hotel is quintessentially the sort of Cambridge Hotel you might think you might find when looking for a hotel to stay in in this beautiful old city. It sits close to the heart of the city, opposite the entrance to Downing College, and has Parkers Piece, the large Cambridge Park, behind it.

The rooms are not large, but on the other hand this is not some custom-built pile of boxes, but an old private house from the days grandeur, so what otherwise you would would you expect? It even comes complete with lots of creaking floors.

The word quaint does rather summing up, it is small, only has a tiny bar which sees to open up when you walk into it by someone from reception running to serve you. For me that's one of its attractions.

Room Tip: Go to Charlie Chan's Chinese across the road
