“Good Hotel”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

Situated in the middle of Cambridge this hotel is well located. It doesn't have parking though but you can park at the back of the hotel from 6.30pm to 8.30am free of charge. The public rooms are well decorated. My room was very small but adequate and it was clean and well equiped, staff were helpful and friendly. There was no cooked breakfast but the buffet was reasonable. Overall a very nice small hotel

My girlfriend and i just returned from a weekend in Cambridge staying at the Regent Hotel. Excellent customer service from the moment we arrived. Stayed on the second floor to the rear of the building looking out onto Parker's Piece. The room was a good size and spotlessly clean and also included air-con which was a must during the evenings when it was quite humid. Could not fault the location as mentioned by a previous reviewer. The hotel is less than a 10 minute walk to the centre, yet far enough away from the Saturday night reveler noise. On that subject the hotel is close to a number of pubs, bars and restaurants so you don't have to go far for a good night out although the centre of Cambridge does have some great traditional pubs. I recommend the Anatolia Turkish restaurant just opposite and if you miss the hotel breakfast at all (continental), there's an excellent cafe called Avalanche just opposite, with a great breakfast menu. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend the hotel to others.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking Parkers Piece for great views.

The Regent Hotel is a grade II listed 4 storey Georgian town house.

The location is excellent - just a10 minute walk from the train station.
It fronts onto a street packed with restaurants and backs onto a large park.
There's no car parking, but you can apparently park overnight on the lane at the back of the hotel for free.

I'm always a little wary of hotels housed in older buildings (especially ones with 'listed' status) because you never know if you're going to hit problems like uneven floors, low ceilings, erratic plumbing or tacky décor, but thankfully the Regent doesn't suffer from any of these traits.

It's a 'proper' hotel (as opposed to a lodge/inn), so it has traditional features like having a trouser press in the room and offering laundry facilities.

The public areas are bright, airy and tastefully decorated.
The bar/breakfast lounge has a number of large sash windows which look out onto the park or onto Regent Street.

The lift is slow and tiny, so you might want to use the stairs instead.

Our 1st floor room looked out onto Regent Street (rather than the park), but luckily the double glazing was very effective, so traffic and street noise were negligible.
The windows can be opened, or you can use the air-conditioning unit to control the room temperature.
The room was described as a “small double”, which had it been any smaller would have been in danger of breaching my human rights. OK I am exaggerating a bit, but the bedroom is quite pokey, this could probably be improved if the furniture was rearranged.
Speaking of which, there was a bed, wardrobe, trouser press, bedside tables, desk, chair and coffee and tea making facilities.
The doors were sturdy items with good locks, so if you're concerned about personal safety or noise, you should feel reassured.
The décor was again, tastefully done and unlikely to cause offence to anyone.
The bed was a little narrow, but it was comfortably firm and had plenty of good quality pillows.
The TV was a little on the small size, but it matched the size of the room adequately and it offered a good selection of Freeview and radio channels.
At check-in we were given a code for connecting to the wifi network which is a refreshing change from being stung for £15+ that most hotels charge.

In contrast to the bedroom, the bathroom was quite capacious.
It looks as though all the fixtures and fittings are quite new, as there are no signs of wear and tear.
The towels felt as if they were quite new and of good quality (i.e. thick and fluffy).

I had no complaints with the standard of cleaning in the room or in the rest of the hotel.

Breakfast is continental only, but the choice is good.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

At first I thought the room rate was a bit high, but having checked the Regent against comparable hotels in the area, it seems to offer quite good value for money, therefore I've no hesitation in recommending it.

A small hotel with very nice and helpful staff. The hotel rooms very CLEAN and are spacious, and are very equipped very basic, the desk is small and the chair not very comfortable. The location ois convenient, about 10 minutes walk to the center of Cambridge. there are several restaurants near the hotel. You can park just outside the hotel on Regent Street (limited parking) from 6:30 pm to 8:30 am. Other times, there is a public parking not far away. The hotel is located on a relatively busy street and my rooms faced the street--It was very quiet. The continental breakfast is OK. Internet access from room is tricky. I had one day that I could not connect and the second day it worked very good.
Overall, I will stay in this hotel if I come again to Cambridge

Room Tip: Standard double rooms are spacious

Less than 10 minutes walk to the shops and colleges this hotel was a great choice for us. All the staff were pleasant and helpful and our room was large and comfortable with a good sized bathroom. The breakfast room / bar / sitting area looks over Parkers Piece a large area of parkland. Because we were there for two nights over a Saturday afternoon and Sunday we were able to park our car across the street from the hotel but at other times you would have to pay for a nearby car park. I would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Excellent customer service. Every single member of staff was incredibly helpful, friendly and efficient. We were staying for freinds' wedding and had a couple of problems of our own making! Including booking very late when there were no more rooms for 2 nights and needing a replacement dress. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who organised deliveries for us and moved our things to a new room during the day. They made everything completely effortless for us!
Having seen 2 rooms can say both were of good size, well presented and clean. The location is brilliant. Close enough to the centre without being in the middle of Friday and Saturday night noise.

I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel on all counts.
