We were planning a one night stay in Cambridge and almost changed our minds when we read the miserable reviews of Cambridge hotels on Trip Advisor, most of which used variations of the word "shabby" in their descriptions. Then we found the Regent, which was well thought of and which our one night stay confirmed the reviews. It's a bit of a plain place with whom I assumed were Cambridge students on the desk. No worries there: they were helpful and most pleasant. Our triple room was surprisingly comfortable with our son's bed 90° from our queen bed along the wall. The ensuite was fine and, like everything else, clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was continental/buffet but more than adequate to get us started. There is no safe in the room but the front desk put it in their own safe downstairs. There were no problems and we would certainly return. The location is but a few blocks from the University and plenty of places to eat.

An individual hotel. Really helpful staff. If you don't like stuffy carpeted corridors and identikit rooms then try this hotel. Clean and fairly minimalist boutique style. Top floor rooms are great - balconies overlooking Parker's Piece. Mattress excellent and sheets lovely white Egyptian cotton. Parking at the multi storey nearby was easy - just a short walk. Great restaurants very close at hand and the continental breakfast offered plenty of choice. Endless selection of Clipper Teas and a lovely dining room, plus a really welcoming sitting room. Ideal base for ambling round Cambridge.

Room Tip: Go for a room looking over Parker's Piece.

My friend and I stay just for one night here last week. Check in was smooth and friendly our room wasn't quite ready so we left our bags (lunchtime). When we returned later that day our bags had been taken to our room which was on the first floor. The room was very spacious and decorated with taste, not corporate style! The bathroom was big enough for bath (overhead power shower) toilet and bidet. It was all very clean. Our twin beds were comfortable. The buffet style breakfast in morning was ample for us. Cold meats, cereals, fresh fruit etc All in all we would definitely return but be aware whilst it was for us good value being near to town center our room was not cheap.

Room Tip: we were in a room facing the park

You can't do much better than the Regent for convenient location to central Cambridge, but there are others nearby like the University Arms Hotel to consider as will. The Regent looks like it was updated fairly recently with carpet, paint and room furnishings.
Do note that it faces an active street lined with restaurants and bars, but backs up to a large park. Not sure how the rooms on the park side are at night, but we're on the street side, and even with the double-paned windows nothing can muffle the noise of the drunk and boisterous when the bars close down. We've been awakened every night here by that. If you stay here, see about reserving a park side room!

This hotel is small but clean, well appointed and efficiently run.The double room was a good size, with a splendid bathroom.Everything was very fresh and well-maintained. The continental breakfast was all one would expect, with particularly good coffee and served in the small breakfast room overlooking Parker's Piece.
The staff are friendly and efficient and do all they can to please their guests.
It is well located, only 10-15 minutes walk from the shopping areas and main attractions.
Well worth a return visit.

The hotel is very well situated by Parker's Piece, opposite Downing College and a few minutes from the city centre and many colleges. Our bedroom was acceptable in size although the bathroom was a little cramped. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking is a problem.

Charming, lovely hotel overlooking Parker's Piece. We got an executive suite with a pullout couch for our daughter and the room was quite large by European standards. Beautifully appointed furniture and decorations in the rooms and throughout the hotel. The staff were all very helpful.

Only complaint is the patrons leaving nearby bars/clubs between 12am-3am, are quite loud, and would wake us up each night. Finally I started wearing earplugs and that remedied the problem, but if you're a light sleeper, beware. Also, the walls are quite thin...one night I could hear the man in the room above us snoring, and the next night a couple was having quite an argument at 3am above us. I called the front desk and asked if they wouldn't mind asking them to lower their voices, and the operator kindly did.

Breakfast is in a sunny room overlooking the gorgeous greenery of Parker's Piece and had enough to chose from to please all. The servers were very kind and helpful.

Would recommend, just with earplugs too.
