Owner description: Founded in the early 1900s, we are Cambridge's oldest and friendliest punting company. We founded pleasure punting in Cambridge and have hired boats along the famous College Backs and on the scenic route towards Grantchester village for over 100 years. As the first company in Cambridge to offer chauffeured tours of the College Backs, our VisitEngland award-winning services include both our boat hire and our College Backs Tour. Discover how the city has evolved from medieval market town to world-class centre for education whilst enjoying spectacular views from the river - the ideal introduction to the city's inspiring history.

Punting is one of the main attractions in Cambridge but do yourself a favor - hire a punter, don't do it on your own. We booked with Scudamore's and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and very good at his skills. The problem with being allowed to punt yourself is that most people have no idea what they are doing! Here's your 10 minute training, now go see if you can prevent yourself from falling in. Just prepare yourself for some screaming kids and "slight bumps" as your pro punter tries to avoid the untrained.

It is an amazing trip up and down the Cam (lasts about 40 minutes) and you see some wonderful views of The Backs, the Bridge of Sighs and the various college greens. Well worth the time.

Went for a lovely punt as a treat with two friends before the summer holiday chaos begins. My friend who lives in Cambridge booked online with Scudamores (great way to save money). We arrived for the punt mid-morning on a week day and were on a boat within five minutes. We shared with some lovely Korean and Chinese tourists. Patrick was a lovely guy who had just finished his A Levels. He was friendly with a lovely conversational, lighthearted style. He was a good punter and his historical knowledge and anecdotes were accurate and interesting! He was very polite and made sure all the boat was happy and involved us in the tour! The tour is about 45 minutes. Planning to take my children (10,14 and 15) during the holidays as it was so good!

I am traveling with two teenage boys and we really enjoyed the punting trip, it lasts about 45 minutes and you see all the colleges from the back, the punting guide talks non-stop about the history, the buildings, it is a very enjoyable tour. We were 12 in the punt boat, the seats are cushioned, and they even provide blankets in case it is cold. There is enough room to stretch your legs comfortably. It seems to be THE thing to do in Cambridge because as we were walking around the old city we kept being stopped by people asking us if we wanted to go punting.

Booked a combined ticket for the open bus tour and punting. Scudamore's were the company used for the punt tour. We found them to be a very professional company who obviously know what they are doing, all the staff were polite and efficient and the tour started at the time they said it would.
Our puntsman/ guide was very knowledgable, funny and and a joy to listen to, he made our trip on the river the highlight of our day in Cambridge, many thanks to all at Scudamore's.

Booked their online 90 kayaking option and went along one Friday about 2pm to get our double kayak and enjoy the river. There were no double kayaks available so they said - 'that's our fault, we'll give you two singles instead'
Briliant -they were more expensive so we got ourselves a bit of a bargain really.
They gave us waterproof bags for our stuff, life jackets and sent us on our merry way after apologising for the wait due to a school booking and advising us to go and wait elsewhere. Which as the weather was so nice was fine by us.

Really helpful staff. My only comment would be that it would've been nice to book our kayak in advance. After being told I couldn't do that, for a big group to come and use all the double kayaks on the day I had planned to come was a bit irritating but it all worked out very well in the end, so thank you Scudamores!
