“Good B&B”
Reviewed 11 January 2013

We stayed here in November for 1 night and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There is a stale smell in the hallway but the rooms were nice and clean, and breakfast was good. There is also adequate parking. We would stay here again as it is a great base for exploring Cambridge.

Best B n B we have used in Cambridge, pleasant walk from the main town or short taxi ride. We have stayed twice, firstly in a pleasant en suite double which was comfortable and warm. Recently needed a room however they only had a family room available, offered at the price of the double we were treated to a huge four bed room with a large bathroom. Would recommend Hamilton Lodge to anyone needing a bed and fantastic breakfast. The staff are always very welcoming and we very much liked to hear the waitress whistle while she worked.

We spent 3 nights over the weekend there und had a double room with shared bathroom. Although the room was quite small, everything was nice and clean (also the toilet and bathroom).
Breakfast was good as well. We could choose between different meals(eggs, sausages, beans...) and got also fresh toast, marmelade, cereals and organge juice.
Staff was friendly and if you depart early in the morning it is possible to ask for a paked lunch instead of breakfast.
Unfortunately the location was not optimal. It´s a little bit outside of the city (20 min walk) but there is a bus station next to the B&B.

So I think a really good service for that price.

I recommended this B&B also my parents and they were also quite happy with it.

We chose this B&B because we wanted to be within walking distance of the town centre. But to be honest, the standard of accommodation was not up to scratch. The room decor was tired and tatty - woodchip wallpaper pulling away from the walls, paintwork chipped. There was visible dust on the bedside table and lamp, and the bed - although huge, sloped downwards towards the head, and the duvet only just covered the top of the bed so it got chilly and draughty.

The shower was OK, but there was no hand towel provided for the washbasin, so we had to use one of the bath towels for both purposes. Our room was also very close to, presumably, the boiler - so every few minutes, day and night, we were disturbed by a burst of noise which lasted a few seconds. V annoying.

The breakfast, however, was good - efficient, friendly service - food arrived very quickly and was obviously freshly cooked rather than congealing somewhere.

We had another problem - we were greatly disturbed, at around 2-3am, but very noisy rowdy behaviour from some obviously drunk guests returning from a wedding and staying in the room below us. As there was no overnight reception cover, we just endured it until things went quiet. But when we mentioned the issue on checking out, the reaction of the receptionist was to say "You should have dialled 0. Or you could have opened your door and said something. No-one else has complained". Would you get out of bed on a cold night to tackle what sounded like 4 or 5 unknown drunk people "enjoying themselves"?

I often use Trip Advisor to get recommendations for accommodation, but rarely do I ever make a post after staying somewhere. However, this place warrants a warning as it is by far the worst place I have ever stayed...

My husband and I stayed here for one night in order to attend a party locally. We didn't want to spend a lot on a room as we would only be there to sleep. So we chose this place based on location and price (£60), knowing that it was not en suite. However, the photos on the website are entirely misleading as only some of the rooms are shown and there are no photos of the communal hallways which are shabby and dated. I assumed that all of the rooms would be furnished to a similar standard but our room (number 7) had an old squeaky bed, stains on the carpet and chair, and probably hadn't seen a lick of paint for over 20 years. In addition, it was incredibly cold and uncomfortable, plus noisy from the busy street. I can only assume that some of the rooms are in a similar state since we could hear other guests' "squeaky beds" throughout the night. The shared bathroom was laughable with a hole in the ceiling, uneven floors, and a bone-chilling draft. We decided not to bother with the shower since it was dingy and quite frankly off-putting.

We hoped that breakfast would make up for the poor quality of the rooms, but it was barely edible with cold eggs, poor quality bacon, and tasteless mushrooms.

Finally, the service was incredibly disappointing - they didn't ask how the food was, they didn't ask if we enjoyed our stay, and they could barely be bothered to take our room key this morning.

Spend a bit more money and stay somewhere else. Don't give this place your money!!!

Got to hotel and the woman at reception offered to call us a taxi cause we didn't know any and wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it is. Could not fault it as a one night stay. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were warm. The breakfast was nice too.
