“Good place to stay”

Good place to stay in Cambridge, which is such a tourist rip-off. It was reasonably priced, clean, and served very good breakfasts. We were very happy with our stay there.

I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of May. It is quite old fashioned more like your TRADITIONAL B&B rather than a hotel.
My room (twin) was fine and clean bathroom/shower decent and breakfast was very good. However the room has probably not been re-done since about the 70's woodchip walls flowery bedspreads, carpets etc. Same with many of the other rooms (stayed as part of a brass band).
This hotel just needs some money spent on it to bring it up to date, with the right work etc it could be an excellent design hotel as its location etc is excellent.

The location is excellent - walk down the street for about 1/3 mile you come to the river Cam, cross the bridge and walk along the river a further 1/3 mile and you come to bridge street in the city centre. Many of the colleges etc are about 1/2 mile a mile walk from here. Also most people actual cycle, so keep this in mind as this hotel is excellent for walking and cycling

I've recently got back from spending one night here over the weekend and can only imagine that its undergone a referb since some of the previous reviews were written!
The room (3) wasn't that large but managed to squeeze in a four poster (all be it of the ikea variety). and the bathroom was spotless with a huge shower. Breakfast was good by B and B standards and aside from the plasma telly not having the greatest reception we thought it was good value.
If you do stay here try walking up the road and cutting through to the river, its a nice stroll into town that way and only takes about 10 mins or so.

Not too great. We were put up a number of flights of stairs at the top of the house. There were two flights of stairs and a couple of doors between us and the toilet/shower facilities. The room was not entirely clean. The bedside lamp did not work. The window blinds were
broken. This is a big place, and the employees behaved normally; they
were professional enough, but not friendly nor particularly helpful.

I stayed here for 2 nights recently. The good point is that it is cheap for Cambridge - I paid £45 per night on laterooms.

The downside is that it is not that great - the room was quite small and smelt of stale cigarette smoke. It was not very soundpoof. The hotel as a whole looks a bit run down Breakfast was OK but a bit greasy. The hotel is probably about 30 minutes walk from the centre of town.

I recently stayed at this hotel and having read previous reviews was a little concerned. The hotel is old fashioned and areas need redecorated, but it is clean and if you are just using it for somewhere to sleep it is fine. Our room was clean, but poorly decorated, it had tea/coffee facilites/hairdryerTV etc, but bathroom could have done with more towels, the shower door leaked water all over the floor, and a paper shower mat was unable to mop this up, although the bathroom was basically clean it could do with being freshened up/modernised. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located for Cambridge, a 10 minute walk along the river will bring you into the centre. Although this is called a hotel it is more like a Bed and Breakfast, although you can get meals throughout the day, also there is a bar, but it closes at 11.00pm and there is no dedicated barman !!. There is also no real lounge/reception area - there is only a small room that would seat about 8 people. This is not a fancy hotel that you will fall in love with, it is somewhere to say, relatively well priced within walking distance of Cambridge Centre, if I had to I would stay here again

Bad points -- seemed more like a hostel for the homeless by the state of some of the clients. Room, mattress uncomfortable and stunk of smoke, so bad I could not sleep on my front or side. Carpets dirty. Wardrobe to small to even hang a mans shirt. Loo down hallway through firedoor had very dodgy flush, so sometimes people couldn't flush it -- most unpleasent. Dinning room leaked water through ceiling in several places!!!! Only good point is that the staff were friendly.
Advice Do not stay here, I would rather camp or sleep in the car.
