Description: The Mill Pub in Cambridge is situated in an extremely picturesque location in central Cambridge overlooking the river Cam and its punting stations, The Mill is a delightfully traditional pub oozing character and charm. You will find a delicious offer of fresh food alongside a very impressive range of local cask beers. Outside is the Mill Pond and Sheeps Green alongside the Cam, where you can take food and drinks to relax and enjoy this tranquil, typically English setting. This historical pub has a warm and cosy atmosphere - it is perfect spot to meet with friends, enjoy a delicious meal or just relax with a quiet pint Surely one of the best pubs in Cambridge

“beautiful location, poor food, poor price/quality ratio”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

We appreciated the beautiful location and the character of the pub. However, the quality of the food was terrible.
We had ordered 2 Mill burgers (£9.50) that arrived fast… but also cold.
We were also highly disappointed by the quality of the burgers, especially for that price, and this independently from the fact our dish were served cold.
The meat was not properly cooked (the middle part could not be eaten as it was raw) and was not 100% beef but tasted like sausage meat. Furthermore, the burger was very dry as it did not contain any sauce, not even ketchup or mayonnaise. We confirm the poor quality of the bun bread/brioche mentioned by other reviewers. As our plates arrived cold, we won't comment on the quality of the fries as we're certain they taste much better when warm. We also did not like the cheese used in the burger… perhaps if it had been melted properly it would have tasted better but we will never know and the Mill is now on our "never again" list of pubs in Cambridge.
On the positive side, we appreciated the salad served along and the presence of coriander in the seasoning of the colslaw was a nice and original touch.
Also on the positive side, the female toilets were quite clean. Unfortunately, those positive observations do not compensate the disappointment caused by the poor quality of the food.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for spending the time to give feedback on your experience here at The Mill. Needless to say I'm very disappointed with the experience you describe.
The burgers not being properly cooked is inexcusable and for this I can only apologise. I can guarantee the beef we use for the burgers is 100% minced steak. The only sausage meat used in our kitchen is for our sausage rolls. When served you should have been offered ketchup and mayonnaise on the side. We don't put these condiments in the burgers as standard as many people prefer to have the choice. Apologies if this was not the case.
The buns we use here are of a brioche type that we have only started using quite recently however I'm sorry they weren't to your liking. The cheese is of the cheddar variety. Again I'm sorry this wasn't to your taste.
At The Mill we are proud that, generally, the feedback we receive here is very good, so I am very sorry for the experience you describe. I have asked the staff that worked over the weekend if you approached them on the day to communicate your displeasure but none of them say they received a complaint. It is a shame that we were not able to rectify the situation on the day. Consequently I would very much like the opportunity for you to give us another chance so if you decide to do so please be in touch so we can perhaps try and offer a more satisfactory experience.
Sincerely,

“The best pub in Cambridge”
Reviewed 21 March 2014 via mobile

Popped for a drink and stayed for 2-3 hours, lovely atmosphere, got that busy at 6pm that there was no tables left on a Wednesday night. Situated on the banks of the river, good selection of beer, i had the Moretti lager and my partner had Symonds cider, great pub just for a natter and friendly quick service even when busy.

“Good pub with lots of character”
Reviewed 13 March 2014 via mobile

Called in for a tea time drink on a sunny afternoon, looked like everyone else in Cambridge had the same idea. Ideal situated on the banks of the Cam. It would have benefited from having some outdoor seating, but it was obviously a case of no room. They did allow for out sales in plastic glasses for people wanting to sit on the grassed area of the banks.
Pub was very traditional, and had lots of cask ales on. Didn't have a meal but the menu looked good. Well worth a visit.

“Pub lunch/dinner”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

A lovely pub -great spot by river. The food was good quality pub food (as opposed to fine dining)-we went at a funny time bit after Sunday lunch run and before dinner so run out of some options but still choice of 5-6 meals - roast beef dinner very good (especially for southerners). Plenty of veg- carrots, parsnips, and cauliflower cheese and broccoli. Friend had fish and chips - good thick chips and very generous fish. Got served quickly and NOT invisible to bar man (very rare!) Got served quickly for drink on Saturday as well.
