I have to admit it wasn't until recently that, on pining one night to a respected foody friend of the dearth of good (emphasis on good) Turkish options in Cambridge, I had even considered the Tudor Rose as a dining option. Only 500 metres from our bolthole along Mill Road, this was a nigh-unforgivable offense, and one that had to be rectified post-haste. We went that very night, and I'm very, very glad we did.
Simple, flavourful kebab dishes are served straight off the mangal at the front of eatery, presented cheerily and efficiently alongside mounds of fresh salad and bowls of tangy hummus. The yogurtlu kebabs are delicious, particularly when served with aubergine. Simple, no-nonsense, and unexpectedly excellent food served in an unpretentious place. Dervish at the Tudor Rose is precisely what a good neighbourhood restaurant should be, and they soundly out-perform the other Turkish places on Mill Road.
