“EXCELLENT LOCATION NEAR A14”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

I arrived late and the details of how to get in were great. No issue

The room was excellent, clean, tidy with plenty of clean towels and teas maid.

Breakfast was excellent, much better than normal for a B&B. The lady owner was truly cheerful so early in the morning, a good start to my day.

Only issue is that no advice on how to connect to internet. Even just to say what it was called, log on and follow instructions there in.

I will be stopping here again, as opposed to the large impersonal Travel Lodge/Premier Inn

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The couple that own the place are very welcoming, the room was charming, newly renovated, warm, clean, and comfortable. Great value and a nice place to put your head at the end of the day.
It is not the easiest to spot when arriving by car, but using the address makes it easy enough. Parking is on the street out front, but we managed to get a spot within 20m of the door.
The walk into town is 25 minutes and pretty. Two bus routes leave from around the corner to Cambridge Centre, though we opted to walk.

We stayed at the apartment portion of the B and B for three weeks. The apartment was perfect: two stories, two bedrooms and three baths. There's a small private patio off the back as well. The structure is older but the inside has recently been redone. Duncan and his wife were great hosts - they even had some basic groceries in the frig for us when we arrived. The location is good - Arbury makes for an easy exit out of town to the north and a reasonable walk to the city to the south. There are two grocery stores within a short walking distance. For the price, I don't know why you'd want to stay in a hotel. We slept in the rear bedroom so traffic noise was not an issue.

When you pay 85 pounds a night, you expect to get some sleep. If you only get a few hours sleep because one of the guests comes home at 2.30am, stomps up the stairs carrying on a loud conversation, goes into the room next to you and talks for an hour, before falling asleep and snoring, you feel like only paying 8 pounds a night.

None of this is the fault of the BnB however (athough a few "silence after 11pm" signs wouldn't hurt) and our stay was otherwise acceptable.

The hosts were very pleasant and accommodating. The room was pretty good; the bed was comfortable; the tea and coffee and hot chocolate were great; free wifi was great; the bathroom was small but ok. The bathroom supplies (shampoo etc) were sort of communal - just one big bottle that successive guests use. Bring conditioner and a bar of soap (if you don't like shower gel). It might also be an idea to pack a sleep mask because the light from the hall shone brightly through the gap around the door.

We had a room facing the road and it was noisy - but if you can sleep through traffic you'll be ok.

The free parking was a squeeze but we managed to get one of the four off-street parking spots - there was also plenty of unrestricted parking on the main road and apparently also around the corner on the side street. The hosts let us leave the car there after we checked out so we could walk into Cambridge.

The location of this place is great - 20 minutes walk and you are in Cambridge.

Breakfast was spectacular - any amount of cereal, fruit and yoghurt to choose from as well as a freshly cooked giant cooked breakfast, tea, coffee, juice and the morning papers. The smell of bacon will definitely get you up in the morning.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the road and it was noisy - but if you can sleep through traffic you'll be...

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that the inconsiderate nature of the guests in the next room spoilt your stay. I am pleased you realised this was rare and out of our control.

On a positive note, I am glad you found our breakfast spectacular, the room lovely and our location convenient for visiting Cambridge.

Kind regards
Duncan & Emma

After a problem with my booking ( through no fault of the hotel), I was still given a very warm welcome and offered alternative accommodation in the adjacent apartments at no extra cost as the hotel was full. Emma and her partner were so kind and understanding and couldn't have done more to make me feel welcome. I will definitely stay at the victoria B&B if I'm working in Cambridge in the future. Breakfast was great - huge range including plenty of healthy options too and the accommodation was very comfortable with very little road noise. Amazingly comfortable bed! Many thanks for a lovely stay.

Lovely breakfast, no hassles, comfortable & clean, tastefully decorated with plenty of space, good bathroom. Prices are competitive for Cambridge.

...and they talked to me about bikes, cycling and running so that got them an extra star too. :o)

Cambridge is very mixed for B&Bs' / hotels in my experience but I would certainly go back to Duncan and Emma and recommend it too.

Room Tip: Room tip: I chose a 'large double'. No complaints at all.
