“Delightful stay, patient staff”
Reviewed 13 January 2013

Stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a large family party, with several people staying in the hotel and others just there for a dinner. The hotel is very attractive, an older property sensitively modernized and blended with contemporary style and comfort. Our room was spacious, spotless and well appointed. The restaurant and bar were very nice, and the breakfasts were excellent. We're quite a lively family :-) but the staff were very gracious and helpful with all our requests, and could not have been more professional and helpful. I would recommend this charming hotel without hesitation.

Thank you so much for recommending Hotel Felix on Tripadvisor. Great that your family chose to celebrate in our beautiful hotel. We have some very elegant private rooms, ideal for a variety of special occasions. Since they are situated away from Graffiti Restaurant, you are entitled to be as 'lively' as you wish!

My wife bought me a weekend away for Christmas at Hotel Felix to visit Cambridge. The hotel lived up to all our expectations. Our room was lovely with a stylish contemporary decor. What was nice was fresh milk in the mini bar and hand made cookies to enjoy with our cup of tea. The bathroom was great, had White Stuff toiletries and featured under floor heating, a nice touch having tiled floors which one times can be cold to foot.

Breakfast was fantastic, especially the home made muesli that I wish I had the recipe for! The service at breakfast was second to none and the manager should the applauded for the speed and attentiveness shown by the staff on duty.

My wife and I would love to come back and enjoy more of the service and welcome shown by the hotel.

How very lucky to receive a Christmas present of a stay at Hotel Felix! Our General Manager takes immense pride in the high levels of customer service that she has instilled in the team here, who are genuinely passionate about ensuring that customers, such as you, leave having had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

It is interesting to note how many of our guests comment postively on the fresh milk that we put in the mini bars in our bedrooms. Such a simple touch really, and after all, who would want to taint their tea with UHT milk?

Glad that you enjoyed our healthy breakfast option of homemade Muesli. Did you try the granola too? Chef seems to have a huge fan base for his...secret recipe!

We made a very late booking for New Year's Eve and the hotel surpassed all our expectations. The receptionist was very helpful and efficient and we received great service from all the staff throughout our short stay. Our room was very comfortable, clean and modern with a large flat screen TV. The bathroom was equally modern and stylish with bathrobes and quality toiletries.
We enjoyed live jazz with cocktails in the stylish bar and had a lovely three course meal. Breakfast featured local produce of high quality and was delightfully presented and served. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and hope to visit again soon.

I have stayed here a couple of times and always found the service to be outstanding. The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable I love staying here. It is pretty close to the city if you don't mind a walk or there bus stops/parking/taxi.
The resturant is beautiful and I have always had great food there plus the service is as good as any fine dining place.

We haven't stayed here but we did have lunch in the restaurant yesterday. I was looking for somewhere to take my niece and 4 week old baby where, if need be, she could leave the table and feed or change the baby elsewhere. They were very helpful on the telephone and we had a lovely table by the window, not far from a welcoming fire, and a very good lunch. It was very reasonably priced (£16.50 for 2 courses, £18.50 for 3 courses, I think) and we were not rushed by anybody and the staff were very helpful, turning up at the table just when needed and not bothering us any other time. It was a bonus to be able to park, a rarity for Cambridge. The menu changes weekly and we will definitely be going back.

We stayed at the Hotel Felix to get a night away for New Year's Eve. We booked our stay over the phone and chose one of the package deals, which included a three course dinner, room, and full breakfast.

Room
First floor (#42). Clean, modern and well appointed, featuring heated floors and towel rack in the bathroom, large bathub and separate rainfall shower, comfortable King bed with four pillows (and extra available upon request), choice of teas, coffee and Cadbury hot chocolate and a decently sized flat screen TV. Overall room size was modest, but spacious washroom and smart placement of furniture made best use of the space available. Reasonably priced room service (GBP3.5 tray charge) and most meals available were in the range of GBP10. An unexpected surprise!

Staff
Front desk staff very friendly, efficient, and helpful. We never had to wait to be attended to. Settling the bill upon checkout was quick without any issues and they very kindly called a taxi for us, which arrived promptly.

Wait staff were polite and efficient. We noticed many of the staff from the New Year's Eve dinner service were again working at breakfast but yet they did not show any sign of being tired or suffering from any festivities which would be understandable - very commendable.

Food
Having arrived in the early afternoon of the 31st, we first decided to treat ourselves to an Afternoon Tea. Two options with a variety of finger foods, desserts, and teas were available with a price of c. GBP14pp. We chose the traditional tea, which was served in the orangery with finger sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, jam, date squares, bakewell tart and something that was very much like a custard filled macaroon. It was as expected, though it was a treat to eat the warm scones.

The three course dinner -- Even though it was a set menu, the menu was given in a nicely bound booklet rather than only on a printed piece of paper. Despite the fixed menu the options were broad, e.g. celiac free (or made compatible), vegetarian, fish, and meat. Served promptly without feeling rushed. We were checked upon to make sure each course was satisfactory and we had enough to drink. At the end of the meal we each had tea and coffee, respectively, and were given a pot of tea and coffee each. Not sure if this is standard fare or a special due to the meal, but it was nice to be able to serve our own and have several refills as/when desired.

We both enjoyed the dinner and surprisingly, enjoyed the rabbit dish much more than the pork. Kudos to the chef.

Breakfast -- With our package we had access to both the continental buffet and hot breakfasts. If the room doesn't include either, it's about GBP10 for the buffet and a further charge for the hot breakfast, so if you like something warm suggested that you bundle it with your room when booking. A selection of what appeared to be fresh juices, water, cereals, musli, pastries, and both fruit and berry salads. Of the hot breakfasts, we chose the waffles with creme fraiche which was delicious - one could see it was scratch made - and the salmon with scrambled eggs which came in a decent portion. It was a nice meal, we were seated right by the window and enjoyed the sun, but it seemed like we were the first to arrive so our meal took longer than expected to be served. We didn't mind as we weren't in a rush, but perhaps after the previous evening's quick service we were expecting something akin (a gold standard had been set the night before!).

Conclusion
We chose this hotel knowing it was not in the city centre as we wanted to get away without being remote. The taxi fare is approx GBP10 to get into the far side of the city centre, but the walk is quite doable on a nice day. We noticed some reviews commenting that the restaurant fell short of their fine dining expectations because it is a multipurpose area for other meals, however we found this not to be the case. The art work was beautiful, the lighting and decor appropriate, the chairs comfortable, a nice touch was added by the roaring log fire, and in the morning new chairs were used to give the room a more casual, relaxed atmosphere.

We would definitely return if we stayed overnight in Cambridge and would recommend this hotel to any visiting the city.

Reviewed 31 December 2012

It has been a long term goal of ours to attend the Service of 9 Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve at King's College at Cambridge, UK and that dream was fulfilled this December. It was our very good fortune to find the Hotel Felix - a 10 minute drive from the College by taxi (Panther recommended). Our investigation and booking took place over the "Net" in early January 2012. We were rewarded with superlative service in all aspects of our stay. The chef especially is most talented. I had corresponded by e-mail over the months with typical and not so typical touristy questions and all were answered promptly, courteously and completely with added suggestions. We were greeted warmly at the front desk and later by the General Manager who had remembered most if not all of the content of those e-mails and spoke with us as if we were well acquainted. The room was exactly as advertised, neat and very clean! We stayed over Christmas and took advantage of the Christmas special. For our 2:00 Luncheon we were placed in what we considered the prime location - right in front of the window. I was taken ill with a fever and coughing fits while there. The mangement provided me with appropriate medication. The extra touches distinguished this place (It is more than "just" a hotel!) from any other we had stayed in and we have been to quite a few over the years. It should be noted here that Agi helped us with our booking and literally showed us where we could save a substantial amout of cash. Very much appreciated! What first attracted us to this hotel was the fact that the Hotel Management made a point of responding to most if not all comments made through "Trip Advisor" - good and bad. In the comments it is evident that management, is very supportive of its staff. The whole atmosphere at the Felix is relaxed and efficient - a sure sign of hard work going on in the background!. The only drawback - almost not necessary but indicated by our only "4 circle" rating is the location. For our purposes, it was too far from downtown (It rained for most of our stay) so we had to rely on a taxi to and from the Felix. The fare was about £10 one-way. Apart from that minor detail (which is not the fault of the Felix) we absolutely loved everything about the Felix! It would make a wonderful, romantic getaway at any time of the year but I would think especially iin the summer! We would not hesitate going back nor recommending it enthusiastically to our friends! Thank you, everyone at the Felix, for a most memorable experience. We will have rich memories for many years to come!,

Tom and Beth

Congratulations on being a member of the congregation of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at King's College Chapel on Christmas Eve. It is an incredibly special and very moving experience, and one never to be forgotten! I do hope you didn’t get too cold during the long wait to get into the chapel?

I am delighted that your stay at Hotel Felix was so happy and memorable. I have shared your feedback with the team here at the hotel and we are immensely humbled by your kind comments. If you ever return to Cambridge, we look forward very much to welcoming you back.
