“quiet retreat, fantastic food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Hotel Felix is a leisurely 2 mile walk (40 min) outside of Cambridge. It's a quiet retreat boasting spacious rooms, heated bathroom floor along with heated towel rack, separate shower, oversized tub & relatively comfortable beds. But the crown jewel of this hotel is the restaurant. The chef does an amazing job keeping the menu interesting. This is not your usual hotel fare. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, make it a point to reserve a table and you will not be disappointed. Separate bar/sunroom staffed by friendly waiters, especially Kody who helped make our stay quite enjoyable with her lively conversation.

What lovely feedback. Thank you very much. I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Graffiti Restaurant offers a vibrant and stylish setting and our Head Chef is do a smashing job in creating interesting and imaginative menus, which have met with the approval of many of our guests, resident and non-resident.

This was my second visit to this great hotel this year and I was not disappointed. The hotel and its staff were first class. The food in the restaurant was great - nouvelle cuisine with some unusual combinations. My room was spacious and well appointed, the bathroom had a bath and separate shower . All in all another great visit.

Stayed for one night in mid November. Very comfortable, well appointed bedroom with every facility. Good breakfast in the morning in busy dining room. Very convenient location a short taxi journey from city centre. Very helpful staff in reception.

Thank you for your recent review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay. It is lovely to hear from guests who favour our peaceful and convenient location a short drive from the city centre. As we say, better to take advantage of our free parking and take the short taxi or bus ride into town. It is quicker and cheaper as it saves on parking fees.

What a fantastic Hotel! situated on the outskirts benefiting from a peaceful location but only a 10 minute taxi ride to the hustle and bustle of town. Has the added convenience of free car parking.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean with stunning artwork tastefully displayed throughout. Reception/check in was fast and easy lovely helpful staff but for me the Room was the best part ! Having been upgraded to the Penthouse I cannot say enough of how wonderful that room was I didn't want to leave it was simply stunning. The bathroom was amazingly spacious with a double bath a very large rainful walk in show, seating area, large tv ,minibar, Aircon, and most importantly a comfy bed. Very quite didn't hear any noise. Breakfast far exceeded my expectations, a tasty full English and toast that arrived hot! Staff attentive by not intrusive.
Overall the most wonderful stay, a little gem of a hotel hope to return one day.

What a highly complimentary review. This is very much appreciated and it has been shared with the team within the hotel. I am delighted that you enjoyed the peaceful setting of the hotel and that you took advantage of our free parking and took the short taxi ride into the city centre.

This is an excellent property, combining a historic mansion house with a well planned and sympathetic modern extension. The rooms are excellent, very comfortable and modern. The Graffitti restaurant is simply excellent with an imaginative and well executed menu and well stocked wine list. Cocktails are lovely too. The staff are attentive and polite and the service is prompt and friendly while being unobtrusive. I can't recommend it highly enough, well done!

Trouble was we had spent the previous 2 nights in what we rated as an very good traditional 5 star hotel in another City. To be fair, this was much cheaper, but comparisons were inevitable. Reception is not too easily accessible - guests are directed to the original front entrance to the hotel, where we found the flight of steps a bit awkward. The alternative route was quite a long way. For a modern building, it is not compact. We found the black furniture to be oppressive though otherwise the bedroom was well equipped and comfortable.
Apart from the log fire, the dining room was rather characterless - a bit like a canteen, clean and shiny. The breakfast was quite adequate. Dinner was a bit quirky - tasteless toffeed popcorn to be avoided!

Room Tip: There is no lift to some upstairs rooms

Thank you for your recent review which is much appreciated. There are two entrances to the hotel. One is from the drop off point which is accessed from the original front steps of this beautiful Victorian Villa and the other is from the modern annex which was added to the building when it was converted into a hotel eleven years ago. The former adds a sense of arrival, whilst the latter is more convenient for guests with disabilities or with heavy luggage. I am glad that our bedrooms met with your approval, although we do not have black furniture but brown. The furniture in the bedrooms has recently been French polished and we have added glass tops on the working desks and more recently on bed-side tables. I am surprised that you feel that Graffiti Restaurant is 'characterless and a bit like a canteen. So many guests comment on how vibrant it is. It has floor to ceiling windows which overlook our pretty garden and the crushed raspberry and purple furniture and walls adorned with a contemporary art collection make it a stylish and enticing setting for lunch, dinner and relaxed breakfasts too.

We have just got back from a one night stay at the hotel Felix that we had at a special price from travel zoo.

Service, rooms &reception staff all were very good.

Meals tasted good, but because they were al carte were slightly on small side but none the less filling and we did not go hungry.

Breakfast was lovely especially the Granola and fresh orange.

Wine prices as normal so acceptable.

Location 25 mins walk from city centre although good bus service available.

Our room was very comfortable heat wise with controls for the heating that actually worked .

Lovely Paintings and fresh flowers around the hotel.

Cambridge was a lovely place to visit

I am delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay at Hotel Felix and that you enjoyed the comfort and hospitality that this four star boutique hotel has to offer. Hotel Felix represents extremely good value for money and our rates are generally lower than those hotels located in the city centre. In addition to this, we do not charge for parking or WiFi.
