We travel to Cambridge on a regular basis to visit our son at university. The prices of the hotels over the last two years have increased greatly and we were relieved to find a new Travelodge had recently opened. I rang to request four rooms on a high floor overlooking the rear of the hotel which when we checked in they had accommodated us and with a friendly check in and free parking it was a good start. The hotel room was a reasonable size ,with a very comfortable bed,,tea and coffee making facilities and a basic shower room. The location is a 10 minute walk to the Grafton Shopping centre and further 10 minutes into the centre of Cambridge. There is a bar and restaurant ,we cant comment on the breakfast as we decided not to take that option..The lift area and staircases could have done with some cleaning but our room was spotless.I know this is a new hotel i just hope that Travelodge do there up most to maintain it as it was well worth the money

Room Tip: High floor at the rear of the hotel

This is a very new Travelodge with a free (surprisingly!) carpark underneath, which was very convenient. The staff at check-in were friendly but slow - there was quite a queue building up behind us. The room was clean and comfortable, although the bathroom 'pod' is very small and the water pressure in the taps was very low (perhaps that's only an issue on the top floor).

The breakfast is the main reason that I have marked this review down to 'average'. The restaurant area had hardly any staff, the hot food buffet kept running out and had a fairly limited selection of food to start with, the coffee from the machine was terrible and trying to find a table that had been cleared of the dirty dishes left by earlier breakfasters was a genuine challenge!

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room then ask for one on the top floor at the end of a corridor - much less noise from other rooms.

We stayed here yesterday for one night. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and we were pleased to discover that parking in the underground garage was actually free. (That may change, but the spaces are very limited anyway.)
Our room was quiet and not unreasonably small. However, we were looking forward to a cup of tea on arrival and were disgusted to find that the cups and spoons were caked in some sticky mess. We cleaned everything as thoroughly as we could, but still did not enjoy drinking out of those cups.
As to the furnishings, the wet cell is clearly a new design. Whoever is responsible for it forgot to provide some means of putting down the soap in the shower - don't they ever try these things themselves? - and clearly never tested whether the ridge on the shower base is high enough to prevent flooding. It isn't - it does not stop the shower curtain from flapping about and, therefore, you will be wading through a puddle on your way back into the bedroom!

The building looked very tidy and clean on arrival, although the parking was a bit hard to get into. Staff at the desk were rather abrupt with the client in front of us but polite enough as we checked in. On entering our room, I had a quick look around and was disgusted to see that the previous occupant had left a poo in the loo and hadn't bothered to flush the chain. In addition, the bed was only half made, with a missing duvet cover. We went down to request that the room be cleaned properly, and were instantly offered a change of room. However, we had quite a lot of heavy bags and no offer of help to move them. The new room was much cleaner and the bed was comfy. Breakfast buffet was reasonable but the coffee machine was a bit dodgy. Overall, a good location for a first visit to Cambridge, and the free parking was a bonus.

We stayed two nights at this hotel and had a fabulous time. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our room was fresh and clean and the bed was so comfortable. We ate in the hotel on the first night with the intention of eating out the following night, but we enjoyed the food so much we ate there the second night. Breakfast cost extra but was well worth it for an eat as much as you like buffet. The hotel is about two minutes walk to the town centre. Perfect location. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
