Stayed in this travelodge for 4 nights whilst visiting the Cambridge Folk Festival.
The staff were a pleasure to deal with, very helpful and welcoming. The number 3 Bus to the city centre was right outside the front door - also continues to the folk festival at Cherry Hinton - perfect!
Found parking very easy - self parking and at no extra cost. Had a room on the ground floor at the back of the hotel. Very quite, good comfortable bed and slept well. Bathroom with shower was on the small size but had everything needed for a short stay and was clean and fresh. Breakfast standard Travelodge offering.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel quieter.

Staff were very happy to help and location was good if you didn't mind a walk to the city centre, but was close to a local shopping centre and retail park. Rooms we're quit hot at night as it was summer.

Stayed for two nights to participate in activity event at Duxford
Check in was reasonably slick once we were seen although held up whilst a family debated their sleeping arrangements between themselves and the receptionist. Then they wanted to see the rooms before they took them!! Painful on a Friday night after a long drive, we accepted the family probably had a need to do this. Check in once we were served was quick and reception staff are very efficient and friendly. We could not park in the car park but were fortunate to find a space on the road quite close to the hotel. The hotel was new and we had expectations some were met and some were not

Communal corridors are very hot and despite the hotel being relatively new the carpet was not in good order; in some places it was badly laid, wrinkling and soiling was evident. We had a room on the first floor, it did not smell nice, fresh and inviting upon our arrival; it smelt of stale body odour and had not been aired since the last guest (how could the room be aired when the window would not open adequately) The build quality is poor and the walls are thin. The room was adequate for a budget hotel and for our needs as we were out each day and ate out each night so the small size was apparent but not an issue for us. The carpet near the dressing table/ desk was embarrassingly soiled considerably and attention to such detail was lacking severely in the overall cleaning and maintenance front, the room was dusty and had not cleaned to a sufficiently high standard. There were greasy thing marks on the walls, the television screen and the bathroom door.
The room was very hot and the windows would only open so the noise from outside was the biggest annoyance factor. The room was at the front of the hotel and the smoking area is located to the front entrance nearest to reception, so when the smokers congregated the room was filled with the smell of cigarette smoke rising from down below, not to mention the voices carrying up to the rooms above The front of the hotel was designed and built such that the acoustics were a nuisance to sleeping guests above. If there had been air con which would seem the most sensible solution given that the windows cannot be opened sufficiently and the noise below, if we had shut window, the small ventilation that we could have, we would have expired in the heat!
The traffic was not too bad for a Friday and Saturday night. The security and hotel staff continued to talk and smoke till 4am. A thoroughly disturbed two nights sleep all round. !!! I ended up calling out from the window to remind the offenders of the time and how their voices and smoking were affecting our sleep- not that it did much good it would stop for ½ hour or so and then start again.
I mentioned this to the receptionist when I checked out and she really did not take me seriously “Oh –she said- other guests have said about the smoking and the noise” She went onto say that “we have moved the ash box but guests still like to talk and smoke on the other side nearest to the guest rooms” No apology, but she was interested to know that staff were also contributory factors.
We had a drink in the hotel when we got back from our night out and the service was satisfactory and the prices reasonable.
We pre booked breakfast and were with trepidation after our last Travelodge breakfast! (Booked two breaks at the same time including breakfast) Marginally better than Paignton- but by no means met expectation- over cooked sausages- most probably microwaved as was the bacon which was wafer thin and textureless due to most likely being cooked in the microwave also applies to the other items baked beans, scrambled eggs and tomatoes. Plenty of choice with regard to the continental breakfast.
The bathroom was functional, but on the small side if you’re an average size male and the mono block tap means that you bump your forehead on it when you go to rinse your face. The towels were very grey and worn considering the new build.
On a more positive note a great central location which provides good access to the City and with luck free parking available if you arrive at the right time! The free Wi-Fi is good for quick download of mail and places of interest.
A very disappointing visit.

Room Tip: Book a room to the rear of the building

A brand new hotel, very clean and in working order, with very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are fairly small but with good beds. Major downside was the extremely poor thermal insulation. On a normal summer day with temps 25 C the room and corridors were sweltering hot during day and night and no air conditioning available. Very poor insulation for a brand new building.

On arrival the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Once on the third floor we felt like we had stepped into a sauna. Our room was not the cleanest. There was a used towel on the back of the bathroom door and the bin had not been emptied. My daughter and I were given a family room but it consisted of a double bed and two camp beds. We ended up sharing the double as the pull out beds were hard and uncomfortable. I asked at reception for a fan but they had all been taken. We had to sleep with the window open and the noise of the traffic kept me awake all night. Over all it was not the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I doubt I would stay in another.

This place is new and consequently in good nick. The shared areas and rooms, if ours is anything to go by, are clean and tidy. Newmarket Road is one of the better Travelodges we have been to, but like many others have commented: 'How can there be no air conditioning?' We were on the third floor and roasted in the heat of July, even with the fan blasting all night; so I'm afraid sleep quality is poor. It will be a great budget hotel in the Autumn, or Spring.

I think T/L offer a good service but only if that service is delivered effectively. my family of 5 adults booked 3 rooms for a wedding nearby, 1 room was for early check-in £10 charge. upon arrival we could not park as the 50 space car park is far too small for this size of hotel 100 rooms+. we attempted to check-in @ 12.45 but none of our rooms were ready, we were offered a serviced room in which to change for the wedding. we dropped our bags in the room, ordered lunch in the bar/cafe, reserved a taxi through reception and took a seat in the bar/cafe. To cut a long story short, the staff forgot our food order, another member of h/keeping was vacumning the room when my daughters went to get changed, the taxi that arrived was for 4 people not 5 which resulted in us having to drive to the wedding, getting lost and arriving after the bride! Sounds like a Buster Keaton comedy, but it was regrettably true. Overall just a succession of basic errors which transformed our happy weekend into a stressed out disappointment. As I said at the outset T/L have a good offer but similar to budget airlines if the basics go wrong then all the customer benefit is lost.
