We booked a table at this pub having read good reviews - we were not disappointed! Back in the 70s this pub had a bit of a reputation so we were not sure quite what to expect! However, the food was excellent - we had local asparagus & whitebait for starters and the traditional fish & chips. The asparagus came with hollandaise sauce and a poached egg - I could not fault it. We did have to wait a little while for the fish & chips but this was not a problem as they were obviously being cooked fresh. The cod was delicious with a light batter and a very good sized portion. We were with friends and one of them ordered the tuna dish - again she said she could not fault it.
It is a pub and so the surroundings are basic - but the staff and atmosphere were brilliant! We will return.

Visited with friends on a lunchtime. Food menu is ok not as extensive as previous reports would suggest. The food however was plentiful and tasty. Now for the crunch how can you run a pub and expect good reviews when you have no draught bitter and only a few of the wines on your wine list, that and excessive prices. Given the location in Cambridge the owners need to do a lot more to stave off another closure.

It was our second time to the pub and we were not disappointed.

On arrival we were acknowledged by all the staff whom were friendly throughout the evening.

The pub offers a great selection of beers, ales, gins and rum but a small wine list.

We choose to sit outside as it was a warm evening and had spotted they had a lovely courtyard which had a view of the pizza kitchen. Something we hadn't noticed on our previous visit.

The menu had a vast choice which made it difficult to choose, we wanted nearly everything. We opted for venison burgers which were delicious. Accompanied with great chunky chips, marmalade relish and a really nice salad.

Unfortunately we were too full for dessert.

I must say this is what the area has long awaited: an upmarket gastro pub, with a great atmosphere, topped off with reasonably priced food.

We will definitely be back.

Having read the recent good reviews, I thought this was worth a try.

The starter (anti pasto) promised much as the quantity for one was immense, however, the meats were a bit too dry. The main I ordered arrived a surprise. I asked for field mushrooms stuffed with gorgonzola and chopped mushrooms. What arrived was a ramekin filled with layers of field mushrooms interspersed with sliced mushrooms in a mushroom sauce - no hint of gorgonzola or breadcrumbs....

I decided not to try dessert.

Quantity over quality seems to be the case here, and as one of the most expensive places in Cambridge I've eaten, I won't be going back.

We had lunch at the Carpenter's Arms today. It's the first time we've been since the new owner started. The pizzas were still great and it's nice that they offer gluten free ones now. However, it took over an hour from ordering to actually get our food - and it wasn't that busy. Also a bit disappointed they don't offer kids' size pizzas. Seems an easy thing to put on, but we were told only the other mains come in kids' portions.
