“Wonderful stay in Cambridge”
Reviewed 29 June 2014 via mobile

My partner and I stayed at Sayle House for two nights. Brian and Lesley are wonderful hosts and their house is simply beautiful. We both had the best nights sleep in a long time! The breakfast was just delicious (great sausages)and room beautiful. They really have gone to a lot of trouble with the house and it shows. Great location just out of town with a lovely walk in to Cambridge via either Jesus green or the Cam. Thank you for a very happy and memorable little holiday. With family in Cambridge we will definitely be back!

A very comfortable, beautifully decorated B&B with a lounge so if you are staying more many nights you are not stuck in your room. Quiet location, easy to park and a lovely breakfast to boot, perfect.

I can't fault Sayle House. It's a lovely place; the whole establishment oozes quality and the hosts were so welcoming and accommodating. I stayed in the smallest room, Willow, but there was plenty enough space for me and it was appointed to a high standard. The hosts have cleverly focussed on the key elements of a B&B: the bed and the breakfast. The kingsize bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in, and every element of the breakfast was a treat; they even have their own 'signature' smoked salmon breakfast dish which tempted me away from my usual choice of Full English. I have stayed on business in several B&Bs in the area, and Sayle House is right up there at or near the top.

I had the pleasure of staying at Sayle House in a fabulouls newly decorated room at its great location on a lovely street of Edwardian villas near central Cambridge last weekend.

I have stayed in some of the world's better five star hotels and boutique hotels in my time, but for this trip was looking forward to an uncomplicated and homely B&B stay in a local home. Not only did I get this, but this is probably the best B&B run by the owners of the house one is staying in that I have ever encountered in the UK - and I have stayed at a varied assortment of these!

The hosts could not have done more. The room was exceptionally comfortable, well appointed with a mattress to die for, newly renovated and wonderfully decorated Breakfast was absolutely superb. The hosts are non-invasive as they have built a separate upstairs apartment so you feel like you are staying in your own home, not someone else's.

This B&B is a new venture by its owners who have just converted what was their large family home for many years as their kids begin to fly the nest. Despite this they already have a slick operation that is personal, helpful and intimate. Indeed, one morning my cousin who was visiting Cambridge and staying in a less salubrious B&B nearby (but not that much cheaper...) was invited to breakfast with me by them - which he greatly appreciated and raved about too.

Probably the best place to stay in Cambridge if this is the sort of thing you are after. A room and bed as good as this elsewhere in Cambridge - which would have to be at one of the five star hotels - would perhaps be at least three times the price. No room service here perhaps, but otherwise the service and friendliness as good as the best five star establishment whilst actually coming from the heart.

Room Tip: Check their site for the room that best matches your needs as there are only three but each suits di...

We stayed here with friends in Alium and Wisteria rooms. As soon as the door front door was opened by owners Lesley and Brian, we knew we had found the best B & B we had ever stayed in. This surely must be the best B & B in England. The owners could not do enough for us, with our every whim catered for. We stayed in Alium, which is an enormous room, has an equally enormous ensuite with walk-in shower and free standing bath, has top quality fittings, white crisp bed linen, hot drinks tray, refrigerator, flat screen tv - in short, all the amenities found in top country house hotels. Alium overlooks the rear garden, while Wisteria fronts a very quiet road. We were struck by how peaceful the area is, but equally it is an easy stroll into town along the path of the River Cam. We all enjoyed the more than ample Continental and full English breakfast on offer, all served efficiently and with good humour in the lovely dining room overlooking the rear garden. We were sorry to leave, and we shall definitely return to Sayle House. Lesley and Brian have created a masterpiece here.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of the same high quality; both back and front rooms are equally quiet. Just go and...

I stayed in Wisteria. It is a beautiful, spacious room with an extremely comfortable bed, and the en-suite has an excellent, large, walk-in shower. It faces the road which is a cul-de-sac so there is no problem with noise. It is, in fact, a huge bonus that there is on-road and off-street parking and from the house you can walk into the centre of Cambridge.
The hosts could not be more welcoming and there is a large, comfortable and elegant guests' sitting room downstairs. There was a welcome pot of tea there on arrival.
Do try the Sayle House Eggs for breakfast, a speciality of the house that uses beautifully fresh eggs from a neighbour's hens. But there is a huge selection of hot and cold foods for breakfast - full English, cereals, fresh, warm croissants, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, porridge etc - so choice is difficult.
I do not hesitate to recommend it - I have already done so to family and friends. It will certainly be my 'place of choice' to stay when I visit cambridge again.

Chose Sayle House because it offers parking within walking distance of the centre - something we have been looking for for some time. It turned out to be simply superb. The whole house is beautifully decorated and appointed - the owner is an artist and it shows. The Allium room is enormous, with a super-king size bed, and a huge bathroom complete with free-standing bath as well as a beautiful, powerful, walk-in shower. It has a lovely view over the pretty garden. Everything is of a very high standard, from the snowy bed-linen and fresh flowers to the toiletries and tea tray. The beautiful guest-lounge has big squidgy sofas and a wood-burning stove. Breakfast is lavish, varied and delicious. Town centre is just a pleasant walk across Midsummer Common. Add to all this a warm and friendly welcome. For us, it is where we will always choose to stay on our future visits to Cambridge. Recommended without hesitation
