We had not previously stopped at a Hotel du Vin and had high hopes.
However, the original concept of a boutique hotel with luxury bed linen, fluffy white towels and designer bathrooms plus gourmet food and wine has been copied and improved upon so often it seems this particular hotel has been left behind.
The staircases are steep (no lift to the top floor and carry your own luggage),and the walls display photos of drunken undergraduates at May Balls.
Our room on the third floor had tired decor, was cramped, and worst of all there was no bath! Where were the added little extras to lift it out of the ordinary?
The bar was packed in the evening. Service in the bistro was very slow although the food was good, but we would recommend Loch Fyne restaurant just down the street as a better option.
Plus parking is pretty impossible nearby except overnight.
