The drawback with this hotel is the building itself and the fact that it is located by traffic lights on a main road. The challenges of creating a 4* experience in what were at least four separate houses mean that you can expect to listen to noisy air con all night even if your room is away from the busy road. The food is excellent but the restaurant has low headroom and is not well ventilated. The cheese board is memorable. The bar is cosy or claustrophobic depending on your view. The Felix offers a better experience.

This is our 3rd stay in a Du Vin hotel....the Cambridge one is ideally situated for siteseeing in the town. Check in was good, but sometime there can be a wait, but some nice art work on the walls takes you mind off it ;)....friendly efficient service, totally professional without being over the top.
Beautifully finished and appointed rooms, comfy beds lovely linen. The mini bar in the room wasnt ridiculous prices either, if you found yourself in need of an emergency chocolate bar or bag of crisps.... Our bath room was lovely, but I dont think it was one of the best as I think we had the 'disabled' friendly room....the last room we stayed in had a roll top bath at the bottom of the bed (our friends room had this, this time) and a walk in shower. BUT it was very nice.
comfy sofas in room...TV channels were limited unless you wanted news or sport, but there was a dvd player and I asuume you can borrow dvds from reception...
Breakfast was gorgeous, plenty of choice from the continental buffet and a lovely choice to add something cooked to it...i had full english, which was divine, and my partner and friends had eggs benedict which they said was the best ever....
One complaint, on our first afternoon we'd been out for lunch and went back to du vin...we sat outside in the luxurious smoking hut and tried to order a delicious sounding cream tea. Only to be told you have to order those 24 hours in advance!!!!!! I didnt know the day before that we'd want one!!!!! who would.....surely its an impluse treat???? so we went to the bakery next door and made up our own!!!! Why on earth you need to order a cream tea 24 hours in advance I don't know.....so that was the only (small) gripe....
Highly recommend this group, I've stayed in Bristol and York Du Vins, and always the same HIGH standard......
OH PARKING.....no parking at the hotel and limited spaces on the street outside which I think are parking meters...so park in the ROYAL CAMBRIDGE HOTEL carpark which is just across the road from Du Vin and they charge £12 per 24 hours, which is a bargin for cambridge parking...

Wishing to find a special place to celebrate my partners' 50th, after much research both locally and in London, from the moment I spoke to Lee of the sales team at Hotel du Vin, the staffs' attention to detail and help went beyond what I expected.

Lisa Curtis was very accomodating and helped in the choice of room - an easy decision as the suite selected had its own min-cinema ie a converted wine cellar - perfect for my film buff partner.

Do not be put off by the rather "below the stairs/back of beyond" access - the suite was exceedingly comfy with fabulous plasma screens and bath fittings - surprisingly, lots of candle holders but no candles (so take your own t-lights and matches).

The nature of the building and overall style of Hotel du Vin is dark and if you want brightness and lightness this room is not for you, but if you like space and warmth try this as even I was impressed by the cinema! The personal touches put together by Lisa and her staff were spot on and much appreciated by both of us.

Dinner in the buzzy public restaurant was very tasty and the staff certainly know their wines. In addition, the delicious continental breakfast was superb - fresh fruits and the best home made "museli" I have ever tasted, served in our room was a real treat.

Location wise for the colleges, river, Fitzwilliam museum, market and shops it is perfect and the parking service a bonus. I would say the hotel is possibly at its' best in the winter months as the opulent, dark decor create that kind of feel, but one of the suites has loads of light and 2 sexy baths facing each other so next time may give that one a go.

Have stayed in the Hotel du Vin in Brighton and was very impressed, quite expensive but worth it. Our room in the Cambridge hotel was small and the airconditioning very noisy. We had sandwiches from room service which were inedible.

It is in a brilliant location but nothing about the Hotel quite justified the price.

Hotel Du Vins are never cheap, and whether you question if you findthem value for money or not suggests you may find them a bit too pricey for what they offer. This one follows the same blue print for most of their hotels in the UK. The décor is dark the service is meant to be first class, although I personally dont think they are quite leading the way on this. Having said that the Cambridge one is fairly good, especially the reception team. The restaurant is always busy which is a good sign. The room we had was spacious. The bathroom was ok, although the bath and shower combined meant a big step into a high bath. I am fully active but a small/less mobile person would really struggle. The coffee facilities were ok but one portion of caffetiere coffee is ridiculous. Give the option of instant too, there is no shame in that. Mini bar is pricey so avoid! The bed is very comfy and the TV has the standard choice of freeview channels. For the price I am quite tempted to downgrade to a slightly cheaper hotel next time (just have to find one!) as I dont think it quite meets the price tag - almost but not quite. We got a "deal" at getroomscheaper.com for about £145 per night. Even the deals are quite high for Cambridge region. I would recommend if price is not an issue or this fits your budget.

This was a great hotel. Unfortunately they seemed very confused with our booking - and hence somehow managed to find a room for us - but we had to keep moving around for the duration of our stay.
We enjoyed 3 different rooms - the suite with 2 bath tubs as pictured was gorgeous and had one of the biggest beds we have ever slept in. Bedding was very comfortable in all the rooms. Space in some rooms a bit varied, but elegant with a modern twist.
Dark rooms in general, but had a cosy feel.
Staff helpful but their booking sytems cold be improved.
Located close to colleges, museums, art galleries and city centre. Great food, the museums leave one speechless - what an amazing place is Cambridge. I would go back again and again - most museums and exhibitions are free to be enjoyed at no cost. The punting is suberb but remember to rug up as it is cold. Cambridge wind and weather were icy at night. I have never felt such extreme cold in all my travels - warm jackets and winter gear are advisable.
Plenty of excellent restaurants, fabulous tours which can be coorindinated from the toursit centre and a great hotel from which to explore.
Highly commendable.
We met up with friends who were staying at the Doubletree Hilton. This seemed to be a larger but equally charming base - located nearby. Another good selection.
