Description: Established in Cambridge since the 1980's, the Peking has focused on producing the highest quality Chinese cuisine that Cambridge has to offer, whilst maintaining that friendly, family atmosphere. As our guest, we'd like for you to sit back, relax, and let us guide you through the unique Peking Restaurant experience of delicious food, hot teas and great service. At the Peking Restaurant, we believe in only serving you the very best that Chinese cuisine has to offer. From our warming soups and tantalising starters to our sumptuous and spicy mains, each of our beautifully crafted dishes comes with their own perfect balance of flavours, textures and colours. We pride ourselves on making everything by hand, from our delicate and succulent dumplings, the pancakes you eat with your Peking Duck, to even the sauces we use in every dish. Nothing is pre-cooked, and everything is made fresh and on the spot for you. We're all foodies ourselves here at the Peking, and we have very high standards when it comes to food. And so our personal philosophy is that we will only serve our guests the dishes that we ourselves would only be more than happy eating. If you're a discerning foodie who understands the value of using the very best ingredients, homemade sauces and the incredible skill needed to bring it all together, then please come dine with us and experience a truly special evening at the Peking as our guest.

I've lived and eaten all over the world and this is perhaps the best chinese food I've ever had, including in Shanghai. Our service was great, but even if it is slow, it's worth the wait. Suck it up folks! This is not the US were waiters wash your feet for a better tip. Let's just rate the food--and this place is the best in Cambridge for any type of food. Period.

You know sometimes when your pushed form time and you take the first restaurant you can find, and it turns out to be a gem? Well the Peking is more like a rusty nail.
We were heading for the cinema and needed a quick bite, first the waiter asked if we'd booked, he then craned his neck to look around the empty restaurant and then offed us the table by the door. We should have left when the menu arrive, £15 for a main + rice, £10 for a starter! We had 2 mains, 1 starter, a beer and some fizzy water - £62.50 + service. I can't decide which was worse the food, greasy, uninspiring slop, or the service, slow, inept, amateur.
And to cap it all they present a bill for almost £70 and announce they don't take plastic.
Avoid like the plague.

They are not trying to compete with the increasing numbers cheap Chinese buffet restaurants - going instead for high quality, fresh, tasty food - you can't blame them for that really. But probably got their pricing a little on the high side even for that. 2 of us visited with our 11 year old son. Didn't go mad on the amount of food, no wine and a couple of beers and the bill was over £110. Restaurant too brightly lit and lacking in atmosphere too. Lovely sparkly bar top in there! Service not great - We waited 20 minutes for them the clear the table after we had clearly finished - even then we had to ask them to do it. Not your usual Chinese staff, but they appeared to be Spanish (or similar) students

If you want a great quality Chinese, go there. I don't regret going, but it would be a while before we return.....

Four of us popped in here for a post pub crawl supper. It took ages to get served and though the food was nice enough it is expensive for Chinese, average main courses were about £14 plus rice etc. as extras and the set menu for two or more was £35/head. There was enough in a meal for 2 to feed 4 easily and so we had vastly over ordered. They were happy to put it in a takeaway bag but I would rather have had less food and paid less. The restaurant is clean and modern but very brightly lit and a bit soulless. The couple who run it are charming though.

A personal recommendation led us here. It's a little out of the way in a residential area opposite the leisure centre, only just visible from the street, but well worth the detour. A newspaper clipping in the window said the chef used to work at the Chinese Embassy, so it wasn't surprising to see the interesting and varied menu.

Having read reviews that said prices were high, considering the quality and ingredients I found it comparable or cheaper to other restaurants in Cambridge (having lunched out three times that week).

Service was charming and considerate. The restaurant was quiet so I don't know what it's like when it's busier, but we were taken good care of without being intruded on.

The food didn't disappoint. Two of us shared a starter and dessert, and ordered 2 mains with rice. That seemed to be about right for us. Each dish had a good balance of texture, colour and flavour, was freshly prepared, and tasted good. We left feeling very pleased with our visit, and I felt the place deserved to be busier on a Saturday lunchtime.

Based on this experience, and on the difficulty of choosing from the range of interesting items on the menu, I'll definitely be back.

NB - we took cash, having read reviews saying they didn't accept cards, but I didn't check if that's still the case when I was there.
