We visited early May, myself and a group of colleagues. The choice of food was very good, with quite reasonable prices for lunchtime in Cambridge. Lovely atmosphere in a lovely part of Cambridge

Was led here for dinner by while visiting and have since been recommending it to everyone. I had sea bream with aubergine gratin and it was delicious. The side were tasty too.
My only complaint was that food was a little while in coming, but we were a table of 9 at a peak time, so I'm definitely willing to give them another shot!

Just disappointing really. Table booked for Friday night, it took almost half an hour for any staff to acknowledge that we had arrived. The starters were ok, at best, and I am being rather generous with my praise ... I would not recommend the pea soup which was water with a slight hint of pea. The main courses arrived after almost an hour and a half. We were informed that there was a large party in.the waiter seemed to think that this was a reasonable explanation for the bad food and lack of service, he was fairly apologetic. Out of our four main courses two were inedible, one was completely dry and the other was far too salty to eat. The other two dishes were overcooked, over salted and very unpleasant. We declined the half hearted offer of a pudding to make up for the poor standards, why would we have wanted to eat more? No thanks.

On a short trip to Cambridge, we stumbled upon The Punter rather by accident as it is situated across another restaurant that we had found on the internet. We decided to check it out and weren't disappointed. Having all had a nibble of each other's plates, we decided the food was excellent. There is a small but good choice of ales and wines. The pub has great atmosphere and the service is lovely, all smiles and helpful. We went back the next day. And the next. And the day after. Check out the graffiti in the loos!

I went to The Punter for lunch on a day trip to Cambridge over the bank holiday weekend. Whilst the service wasn't exactly great (all the staff were sitting around at the bar when we arrived and we weren't even sure they were open), we had a lovely time. We shared a portion of fish and chips (large, tasty, average price) and had a couple of glasses of their nice house red wine. The overall feel of the pub was great and we sat in a corner and played Scrabble (they have lots of board games to choose from) after we finished our food. We could see a lot of the tables were reserved for the evening, so it's obviously a popular choice for dinner!
