Spent one night having walked in off the street hoping a room available. Room comfortable and clean. Decided to have a drink in the bar downstairs and found the barman not very experienced and quite scruffy. Two intoxicated females spoilt the atmosphere and were not dealt with properly by the duty manager. Breakfast excellent.

If it's value for money you're after, look no further. If it's peace and quiet you're after then this probably isn't the place; it's a little noisy on late weekend evenings but it's a pub and as such, noise should therefore be expected. It's very clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good and the evening food is excellent, It's not cordon bleu but very good pub food and we enjoyed ours very much. We have stayed here a few times now and if staying in Ely will always choose it before the Travelodge (impersonal, basic and not so cheap any more), the Lamb (very over priced with very disappointing food)and other guest houses. Agree with the previous reviewer that the rooms are hot; the windows are small and security cords prevent them from being opened too wide. On a very warm evening it can be uncomfortable but we have to say that it is our only negative comment. The rooms are often fully booked and the pub is always buzzing so if you're planning a stay here, make sure you book in advance.

I stayed at The High Flyer during a very hot weekend early in July.

The rooms were basic, but clean and pleasant and the welcome was very friendly.
Unfortunately the rooms were ridiculously hot and airless. 99% of the time in this country this wouldn't be a problem, however on that one weekend it made for two very restless nights.

The breakfast was hearty and the city is lovely.

I'd definitely stay there again, but I'd be wary in a heatwave.

This was an ideal location for a one night stay in Ely. It was clean, tidy, spacious and such helpful staff. We were slightly concerned about any possible noise that may come from the pub itself but we were not disturbed at all. Plenty of parking, central location.
Altogether an excellent find. We would have no hesitation at visiting again. Thank you

I went to the High Flyer for the 1st time yesterday and had the Sunday lunch carvery. I must say that the food was lovely, the portion generous and the staff were very friendly.
At a bargain price of less than £7.00 a head I will definitely be back!
