Description: This restaurant Is listed in all the eating out guides for Alderney as in Braye Street by Braye Beach, but it has just moved up into St Annes town. It doesn't have a website but should be listed as we visited July 2012 for lunch and it was excellent - restaurant with lovely garden, renowned locally.

“Remembered after a year!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

I went here with my mum last year and walked in a year later and was recognised and remembered by the chef, Eddy. How lovely!
Good choice of food, and it is delicious. Lovely staff, great garden, although we ate inside, and good wine list.

Another very pleasant evening spent at "Bumps"…

“Great venue for parties/groups”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2014

Despite a change in location from Braye up to town, the food at Bumps has remained consistently delicious with the added bonus of a slightly more varied menu which changes regularly. Lots to choose from whether you are a meat or a fish lover. Vegetarians catered for but you may want to enquire in advance. The new venue has been very much improved since Bumps moved into residence. Good choice of wines. Waitressing staff not always consistent but always polite. Hope to see this place jam packed in the summer where the garden will come into its own. Great venue to book for parties/groups.

“Excellent Christmas Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 December 2013 via mobile

Congratulations, Eddy, on a superb Christmas lunch. Outstandingly delicious food, courteously served in delightful surroundings. As second home owners in Alderney we come to the island frequently each year and will definitely revisit.

“Bumps is trumps!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

I first visited Bumps in June 2012 and have made a beeline for it on each visit to Alderney since then, culminating in it being the 1st choice for a reception following our marriage in August this year. The garden and the bistro was an ideal setting for our 60+ party, when not only did the sun shine from dawn to dusk but the food, the wine, the chef de maison, his staff and the complete ambience of Bumps Bistro receive compliments from everyone present, many of whom were islanders, along with guests from the UK mainland for their first visit to Alderney.
Bumps definitely came up trumps!

“Diabolical”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2013

As regular visitors to Alderney I have tried the majority of restaurants on the island (my partner all of them) and by far this is the worst restaurant I have ever been in in ANY country let alone Alderney. I had heard great things about this place from people who had been to it in its orginal guise in a different part of the island.

We attempted to book a table on Sunday and like so many other places it was shut, come on Alderney it's the middle of September and most restaurants are shut!

So come the Monday (madness! shut sundays and open Mondays!)we arrived at 8 for our table for 2. The place itself has apparently much change from it dingy past and is now, on first impressions, a nice French/Spanish bistro style room with a (real)vine running all over the ceiling, a bar facing the entrance and seating to the left.2 tables had couples on and a lone man.
We where greated and asked if we would like to have a drink at the bar which is always a nice civilised way to start the evening. So we sat. This being the first of many issue with this place. The seats at the bar are rickety old metal tinny bar stools, not in the slightest in keeping with the rest of the place. Looking around this started a trend. A tacky ikea bamboo blind hung limply from the ceiling trying in vain to separate the dining area from the entrance way. Unneeded and ugly. Then the tables become apparent. I am all for rustic and that being said they would have looked stunning with the rest of the decor. Unfortunatey what adorned the restaurant was laminated 4 seater 1980's beefeater style adorned with bright red ultra modern high backed chairs. No table clothes and not a single 2 seater table in sight. So you can only imagine what the poor lone gentleman looked like.
So we sat drinking our £24 bottle of Riesling, which was not anywhere near what a £24 bottle of wine should taste like and chatted. And chatted. And chatted. 15 mins went by before the only member of staff on that evening presented himself to us and asked "are you ready to order?"
Well no! A menu is normally required. It is made apparent to us, as if we should have known, that the "menu" is hanging half way between the bar and main doors. So we hope down carefully and stroll to the hand painted menu. Now hand written means it changes. This had not changed since 1982.
Parma ham and melon are best left where they are. In the past! Or Palma ham and figs maybe? But nothing could prepare us for the steak. Sirloin steak. £23.50 worth of sirloin steak. Now there is the most fantastic beef available on the island, some of the tenderest Ive had. It does not cost anywhere near this sort of money even with peppere corn sauce (yes peppere!)
When the steak on the menu is simply described as "sirloin" and is more expensive then a lobster dish on the same menu, to be eaten on tables like the ones in this place alarms bells start ringing. You maybe wondering why we stayed. We where here for 4 days to see family and had 1 night to go out and have a meal as we have a 9 month old and no other holiday in sight. On a Monday you cannot guarantee anywhere else would serve and we had already had the very excellent Thai takeaway the previous night
So back to Bumps. We ordered, a goats cheese on toast with red cabbage and calamari with sweet chilli (best of a very bad selection). Calamari - frozen variety from a packet = tasteless and insulting. Rubbish salad with browning lemon lump and manky leaves. Sweet sauce from a bottle, cheap cheap cheap. My partners was satisfactory but bland
Main. Rump steak (Not £23.50, but still a high £14). Un seasoned so despite being flame grilled again bland. Solid grilled tomatoes and yet more packet round blobs but this time onion rings. But the piece de resistance was the lamb shank. I have never ever seen a dish come out piping hot. Not just hot volcanic hot. On a cold day in winter I have seen less steam coming off food then this. You might be horrified to learn that there is a lamb shank available from all good cash and carries that requires no refrigeration and will last past the end of time. This was one of those lamb shanks. Disgraceful. Utterly disgraceful. The sort of food that gave the uk it's terrible reputation around the world in the last century for horrible food. A reputation we no longer have
You sir should not own a restaurant. You shouldn't even own a franchise if McDonalds. You should be ashamed of yourself and the "restaurant" you run.

We paid rapidly and left. No we did not complain, I cared more for having a nice evening with my fiancee then telling someone clearly capable of producing such rubbish about something he must already know. Please listen to what I have written here I promise I have not exaggerated anything. I pray no one else makes the mistake of staying after looking at the menu
