“Very good value”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

We were taken by friends for a reunion, final night meal. Being just down the road from us we have been many times before. Tennerfest had just started unknown to us and the menu looked accommodating to all. We all had a really excellent meal! Full marks Fernando!!

“Ignore the bad reviews”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

We eat here very regularly and always find it good value and very accommodating. The lunch menu is £9.95 for 3 courses so any complaints here about the volume of food are not justified. Eat a la carte if you want to have a larger meal, what would you expect for under £10? The quality is good, the staff attentive and friendly. It is also a great walk around the reservoir to get there so no complaints. We've been with children and alone, in the evening and for lunch. It is always very efficient and worth a visit.

“Beautiful place only let down by average food.”
Reviewed 29 June 2013 via mobile

We ate outside at the Auberge du Val on an incredible summer day and the surroundings couldn't have been better.

The manager was friendly and helpful and the service was very good.

We ordered from the lunch menu, which listed steak, pork medallions & filet mignon among others.

I chose the supreme of chicken in coriander sauce with a "hint of chilli". I was a little surprised when my plate turned up with simply two chicken breasts covered in a watery tomato & coriander sauce. The chicken was bland but saved by more than a hint of chilli. In fact it was quite hot.

My wife had a crab salad that she said tasted good but just wasn't presented well.

We had asked for a bowl of chips each and were somewhat disappointed with the one small bowl that the waitress explained was for two people.

The chocolate mousse somewhat redeemed the meal but at just shy of £40 for two mains, one dessert and a bottle of sparkling water it wasn't worth what we received.

“Dishonesty with wine sales”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

We had a good meal at the restaurant but beware of wine recommendations by Fernando the Manager. He recommended wine and then each time brought it to the table in a carafe. The same happened with the so called 'vintage port' he sold us by the glass. Each time he refused to show us the bottle, or pour from the bottle into the carafe in front of us. There is something dishonest going on we feel and after repeatedly questioning what we were being served and asking to see the bottle we were asked to leave the premises. To make matters worse, Fernando smirked at us throughout. Will never return.

“Rude and uninspiring”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

The setting is great, but the food is average (like another reviewer said, a bit 1970s), and the owner is breathtakingly rude. We listened as a table asked to see the wine that they were being given by decanter, which the owner took umbrage at. One of the party then had a huge stand up argument with the guy, who quite incredibly forgot that the customer is "always right". I will not return and neither would my companions, and certainly the guy who he insulted did very well to not resort to physical violence. Shocking, and there are many more places in Guernsey that beat this restaurant.
