“Almost but no cigar”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

We really loved this hotel generally, but the food was just not quite up to the mark, the fact that the minature onions that were served with my main course came out of a silverskinned pickled onion jar for and then rolled in gravy says it all really.. The white wine was served warm and when I mentioned it I was asked if I wanted ice in it. I am not some sort of crazed food snob but really all I wanted was a properly chilled glass of wine with a meal that was cooked properly. That said the starters were fine as were the deserts and the service was excellent. If the chef was having an off day well it showed but hopefully this wasn't representative of the normal standards.

“Excellent eats in Sark”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

While on holiday in Guernsey, we went over to the little island of Sark and found there a lovely little French restaurant called La Moinerie Restaurant & Bar. It was easily the best meal we had during our holiday. The ambience was cozy and intimate and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Excellent food again.”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

This is a favourite lunch stop for us when we go to Sark. Just park up the bikes and pick a table in the garden and relax. The food was excellent again, the kids loved the tree swing and a rabbit joined us on the lawn for lunch. A really nice place to have lunch where nothing was too much trouble.

“Quality food, exceptional service at La Moinerie”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We live on Sark and for our 16th wedding anniversay wanted to go to somewhere where we had never been before - so we chose La Moinerie.

We had heard the food was good, but didn't expect what we received - the food was excellent, the service was pure brilliance. I have often been a critic of Sark Estates Mangement (SEM) the overall owners of Sark Island Hotels - but I only have applause for the food and service at La Moinerie.

Some people may think the "al a carte menu" is restrictive and expensive, but: (a) at £35 per head it isn't, (b) It is freshley locally sourced food, and (c) For a 5 course dinner it's excellent value for money.

Wines - there is a reasonable selection of wines - slightly limited on the white - but a massive red range, at the usual three times price of a vintners - but that's normal restaurant practice - annoying but usual.

The dining room is a joy to behold, a mock medieval room, loads of space and a beautiful setting.

Beyond the food and setting, what really makes this places special is the service - we were served by an Aussie bloke who really made you feel at home - realy charming beautifull place to spend our 16th wedding anniversary - SEM/SIH - I suggest you make this your flagship hotel/restaurant and not the Aval.

“What a differencea year makes”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 via mobile

We visit Sark in July each year for the Sheep Racing, last year we decided to go to La Moinerie for lunch following the recommendations of friends. What a wonderful meal we had-superb selection, attentive service and good value for money.
This year we went again and should have known on arrival that something had changed, last year nearly all the tables outside and on the grassed area were occupied- this year there were only 8 other people there. Rather than an extensive menu to select from it was limited to 5 or 6 starters and main courses and 3 sweets one of which was not available. Apart from the manager the service was poor, the quality of food poor and expensive and the mussels were off. One of our groups order was incorrect and the staff lied about what the food was. They had great difficulty to get an order of 4 drinks right, when they finally did after 3 attempts we were told told quite rudely we would not get anymore. What a pity that a hotel with a superb location for lunch has let the standard drop so drastically in such a short space of time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. La Moinerie is a popular beautiful location for lunches and dinners particularly during the Island’s main weekends - Sark Folk Festival and Sark Sheep Racing. We are glad that you were able to enjoy a peaceful lunch even during one of these weekends in the tranquil La Moinerie garden. We hope you visit the island again to experience even more of what there is to offer on the island and across the Sark Island Hotels group.
