“A day out”

we did not stay here as only visiting for the day, the food was very average, the staff friendly but inexperienced .I would suggest that you insist that the wine you have ordered is still unopened when brought to the table for inspection.

Stockcontrol, Manager at Stocks Hotel, responded to this review, 23 July 2014
We offer two restaurants at Stocks Hotel; our popular poolside Bistro restaurant is open for informal snacks and alfresco lunches every lunchtime and every evening. The main fine dining room is open for dinner every evening from a choice of a daily changing table d’hôte menu and an a la carte menu that changes with the seasons.
We feature a variety of fresh, local produce in both restaurants and we pride ourselves on providing friendly service from our young team of summer staff many of whom are university students.
The Bistro specialises in a wide range of popular style, homemade dishes that are simply prepared, cooked and served to order. The dishes in the main restaurant are more complex, elaborate and creative as befits a fine dining room.
The service of drinks in each restaurant is relative to the style and ambience of each restaurant. All our wines are served at the correct temperature and, as befits an informal alfresco poolside Bistro, our popular house wines are served ‘open’ from the bar. By contrast in the main fine dining room we offer wines from the extensive list that are presented at the table before opening, tasting, customer approval and service.
The contrast in styles between the two restaurants is clearly reflected in the menus, the wines, the decor and the general ambience of each dining area.

After arriving on the 'toast rack' to the top of Harbour Hill it was a good 10-15 mins walk down the lanes to Stocks..at least the luggage had gone on ahead. The hotel staff were very welcoming and we were made to feel at home. Lovely local produce served in the bistro and hearty breakfasts. We had a 1245 ferry back to Guernsey, 9am ' bags outside the room' seemed a bit early and we felt a little rushed on departure morning. All in all well worth a visit.

If you want to stay in a very comfortable hotel, with a high standard of room, plenty of good food and drink served by helpful and friendly staff, situated on a truly magical island, then this is the place for you. People don't go to Sark expecting a riotous night life but go to recharge the batteries and savour a unique environment. A little oasis.

I havn't been to Sark in a few years and my better half hasn't been before so we decided we would go for a few days, booked up and away we went. Arriving in Sark is pretty much the same apart from a conple of new builds and a lot of renevation works all looking very good and just how I remember it.

We arrived as you do at the port and stepped back in time but just with a toe or two. Up heartbreak hill in the toast rack tractor ride and a short walk to our pre arranged horse and carriage ride.

What a way to ease into our break, the driver later we found out to be a member of the family who runs and I believe owns the Stocks was very cheerful with a wonderful smile and informative patter as we wended our way to the Stocks.

Bang! arriving in the stable block we stepped off and took pictures of the horses and what a cracking looking hotel refurbished and exteneded recently in a very sympathetic way the grounds are quite special. Check in was quick and easy and we were taken to our room which was in the old stable block, lovely new fresh clean room with a view of valley.

We upgraded to half board which means your £25 gets you £35 worth of food in either the bistro or restaurant. The we ate in the bistro and all the food is prepeared and cooked in the same kitchen so if you wish to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere or out doors by the pool then the Bistro is the go. Staying for 4 nights we tried both the restaurant and the bistro and found the food and service excellent in both.

I mention service from our carriage ride up to the serving staff, cleaning staff, waiting staff at breakfast, dinner or having drinks in the bar we found all helpful friendly smiley cheerful and it made quite an impact on both of us. To sum up and in short if you are going to Sark stay at the Stock's its got the lot

Great Accomadation
Great Food
Great Service
Swimming Pool
Jacuzzi
Gym

and above all i'd gladly go back just for the fun of it Stock's management / owners must be doing something right and its one of the best hotels ive ever had the pleasure to stay in and does the island of Sark no end of good.

Thanks one and all and we will be back hopefully and soon.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room we had a room over the old stable which is a shop and spa treatment rooms. G...

The whole island experience was magical, and Stocks Hotel was the best part of all! Very comfortable room, spotlessly clean; great food in both the restaurant and the bistro. All luggage taken care of - all we had to do was walk through the fields to the hotel, and then - reluctantly - back to the harbour at the end of our stay.

The Bistro food was lovely, rooms clean and decorated in a pretty cottage style, the service was amazing. Thank you for your help whilst my husband wasn't feeling well...too much sun apparently! The only unpleasant bit was the room location overlooking the courtyard, two groups of noisy people coming out of the bar, needed asking to move on. We came for the stars in the night sky but the evening was cloudy...this means we will have to return :)

Room Tip: rooms that do not overlook the pool or courtyard unless you intend to be in the bar until late

A lovely quiet hotel. Very relaxed atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and a good place to explore Sark from, to sit by the pool or enjoy the hotel gardens. Our stay was enhanced by wonderful weather but would be worth a visit at any time.
