we arrived in the early morning and was somewhat concerned with our surroundings, being opposite a car wash and surrounded by flats and poor housing. However, once we stepped inside to check in we were pleasently surprised by the clean and modern interior of the hotel. The gentleman at the reception desk was pleasent from the start and throughout the weekend. Our initial main concern was where we were going to park our car (having left it on a short stay carpark 2mins down the road) but was told to park at the rear of the hotel, which could alloacte max of 3 cars, but we was lucky and had a spot all weekend!

Our room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was a bit on the small side but adequate enough for us. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was tasty and filling.

Lucky for us, there was a mini heat wave during our stay, but this made our room stuffy, but you dont tend to get air con in english hotels, so can't complain too much!

The location also turned out to not be all that bad, being only a ten min walk away from the main town center, which was much more appealing with its characteristic buildings, charming history, a good choice of shops and some nice bars.

Overall, the hotel was fine for us and we enjoyed our break in chester :)!

Large clean rooms, The service was outstanding, The owner was so kind and helpful.
Good location, near to the train/taxi station and short walking distance to the town centre.
The dinning area was clean, food was good.
Parking area small, but a pay and display just across the road which was very reasonable.

A very unpleasant experience while checking in (i.e. rude and unfriendly) persuaded me to see if anything else was available. He insisted that I paid in full there and then, and when I asked to speak to the manager, he said he WAS the manager and I should take it or leave it. He said I could have my deposit back if I decided not to stay there.

After finding somewhere else (with staff who actually treated me like a paying customer), I went back to get my deposit. But surprise, surprise, he then refused to give it back to me, and also tried to pass the blame on to "his partner" who he had allegedly telephoned in the meantime. I felt very uncomfortable and was just relieved not to be staying there - one to avoid.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Chester. We found the hotel easily and the parking close by was reasonably priced (just over £5 for 24 hours). The warm, friendly greeting from the proprietor was similar to seeing an old friend. The public areas were very clean and smelled fresh. The rooms were spacious, well equipped with comfortable nicely pressed beds. Large room made up for the compact shower and toilet. Outstanding customer service and a decent cooked breakfast.

V helpful (son of owner) checked us in- downhill after that- we had to virtually fight to get & keep more than one medium sized towel each- car park was small & we nearly got blocked in when we were going to leave so need better system (we would have been prepared to leave keys)- room had food on walls & ceiling (they did clean most of it after we asked)- ridiculous creaky plastic cubicle for ensuite despite very large rooms- we seem to have paid above their quoted rates-breakfast was ok if you wanted cooked (and vegetarian alternative was fine)- only 2 electric points so couldn't make coffee if you wanted to charge a phone & watch tv at the same time-mattresses were really comfortable but moved easily- language was a problem at times- good location close to station & bus tour & some good places to eat- good free WIFI
