My boyfriend and I stayed here a night for our anniversary, and overall I have to say the place itself was stunning, quirky and with a lovely atmosphere. We did however have a lot of ups and downs.

We arrived at 3pm when we were due to be checked in, but ended up waiting 25 minutes in the lounge area, although this wasn't really a big deal.
When we were taken to our room, we were given our keys and left without any explanation as to why we were given a totally different room to what we had paid for other than "the room you booked is currently out of order." Had we been notified of this beforehand, it would have been much better, but we weren't. Because of this I checked the website and realised that, very discreetly, it did mention a room that sounded like the one we were given, but there were no photos and it was nevertheless a little disappointing and completely different compared to what we had been shown on the website. Another little fault was that the mini-fridge was not plugged in and still didn't work when we plugged it in, but this didn't really affect the stay.
Positives - The room was still nice and cozy, the bed was enormous and the bathroom was very nice with a bath tub which the other room did not offer - so we stayed positive about that.

We were very pleased with the lounge area and the atmosphere of this and the garden was fantastic when lit up at night time. The cocktails we tried were incredible and the bar staff were very friendly. We were also very happy with the comfort of the bed and the fact that we were brought free breakfast in the morning and this reconciled the previous issues for us and made the overall stay that night pretty much perfect.

Unfortunately the following morning was another problem we encountered, as there was some confusion with the payment for our room and we ended up being charged twice. This, I think, is due to the fact that the website for Oddfellows does not seem very well connected with the hotel itself, so we did not complain to the staff there and they quickly refunded us the second payment with no problems.

I think that our main issue with the stay was that we were not notified of our room change and it seemed like we had been downgraded rather than upgraded which seemed a bit unfair. If we had paid full price (thankfully it was January sale price), the room we were given would have not been satisfactory for the price and we would not have been happy. We are not sure that the hotel lives up to the way it is described or shown on the website, but it was definitely an overall decent stay, just could have been much better. For a 5 star hotel you would expect a refund of some sort, but we were offered no more than a quick apology.

Stayed as a birthday treat for my husband, its location for sight seeing, shopping, eating out in fact everything is central to anything you may want to do and see. The hotel is very clean, modern and trendy with some really nice features, and is designed very cleverly. Each time you look around the rooms there is something different to see. The bar area is a great place to drink and has a lovely ambiance. Our bedroom was lovely nice round bed, fabulous shower and bathroom. Id asked for wine and chocolates in the room and the chef had done some lovely fresh strawberry s coated in white chocolate.

The outside area is a dream of fantasy, almost like Alice in Wonderland..... would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Any room would be great we were at the back, very comfortable and quiet.

I visited chester for my 40th and we came here the night before the horse racing the next day. It was such a wonderful place, so different and quite "odd" ... In a nice way!. The meal was beautiful and all the different areas to sit especially outside was fabulous. I loved it here and will definitely come back!

This is a well situated hotel with an NCP car park very close, (which is half price when you get a voucher from the hotel). The hotel is furnished to a high standard throughout. The bedroom was clean and modern, though I found using the same glass door for the shower and toilet rather quirky. The bedroom looked out onto a communal outdoor bar/drinking area which due to the winter weather was not being used but I wonder what this would be like in the summer. The only real down side was "the breakfast". A bag you place outside your room to be filled during the night with a yoghurt, orange juice, a croissant and an apple. Why don't we go back to offering a good old fashion breakfast and include this in the price, with a discount if not taken up!
The restaurant provided a relaxed atmosphere with the food well prepared and presented with a very enjoyable evening being had.
The staff throughout the establishment have to be complimented on their professional and competent manner.
We both agree this is a hotel we will return to.

I visited Oddfellows for an afternoon tea with my Mum the other day for her birthday and had pre-ordered one Gluten Free Afternoon Tea and one normal afternoon tea.

My review is on the Gluten Free tea as the service and atmosphere was really rather lovely.

It was quite disappointing. The sandwiches were lovely as expected. Same fillings as the normal tea, but the cake plate was poor. For a family who eats and buys a lot of gluten free options, we instantly recognised the bought Hale and Hearty flapjack that we buy from our local co-op and the white chocolate covered rice cake.....a rice cake on an indulgent afternoon tea? People with allergies still want luxury, and it's evident that the person creating this option really didnt know much about gluten free food. The other items were two biscuits covered in icing sugar. (The slice of opera cake was the only nice part, which is also on the normal tea plate.)

The last annoyance was the lack of a gluten free scone, or even an alternative, there simply was just an empty space on the rack where the final plate should have been.

I feel if a place says they provide an alternative option for certain foods, it should be a proper option and not a poor substitute.

Please put a little more thought into your Afternoon tea.

Booked this for an unusual night away, quirky place to stay and eat but really good I booked a room one up from standard room very nice not very big but nice, furnish to a good standard in keeping with the rest of hotel, loved the semi round bed.
Staff friendly and helpful, it's just a few min walk from town and you get a discount in local car park not bad value for money.

Stayed here after Christmas with my wife on a Sunday night. The room was great (though the glass bathroom might not be good for everyone); beautifully furnished and nicely quirky. Proper mini bar, fresh milk and a coffee machine were good to see. Our deal was dinner, bed & breakfast for £79.50 which is brilliant value. Dinner was very nice, though choice was limited and service was very rushed and a bit haphazard. We had an aperitif and three courses in less than an hour which I feel is too fast. The breakfast in a bag is a bit poor - why don't hotels just do breakfast like they used to instead of charging extra? I can imagine that in Summer a lot of noise is generated by the amazing outside area, but first week in Jan was very quiet. In summary it was good night, and we would definitely go back if there was another deal on.
