Description: The Bear & Billet is a terrific 3 storey pub located inside the walled city of Chester which was owned by the Earl of Shrewsbury & built in 1664. The Bear & Billet offers a great friendly place to enjoy food and drink. We have a wide selection of cask ales and well as draught and bottled beers from around the world. We have a full homecooked food menu available everyday day with Sunday lunch available every Sunday from 12pm-7pm. Not only that we have function rooms available for hire as well as live sport shown throughout the year with 5 flat screen TV's available on 3 floors.

The food was OK but on the expensive side. We would have preferred a separate dining room, the bar was far too noisy to enjoy a meal, and the lighting where we sat was too dim to read the menu properly.

Tried this ancient inn because the Cross Keys across the street was closed. At lunchtime? Odd! But four of us had excellent, freshly-made sandwiches and a couple of very decent real ales. Quiet, clean and friendly. Just the job.

An amazing burger, watching football with friends and nice choice of ales. I've always had great service here and look forward to the food :-) a British pub that's well organised and looks after it's sports fans but isn't a 'sports pub' - back soon for the World Cup!

7 of us booked a table near the T.V screens for a meal 6:30pm on a Thursday night. There was a slight wait at the bar to order but chatting amongst ourselves made that ok. Between us we had steaks, fish burgers, the curry special, chicken burger, pork burger and steak burger. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and all were served quickly and hot. Waitress kindly checked everything was ok with our food, at the right time and then left us to continue tucking in. I often forget about this place, just being on the outskirts. It's as good as the last time though and we'll be back to watch the rugby in a few weeks.

My partner and I thought we would go for Sunday lunch at the bear and billet. It had to be the worst toast I have ever had. Deep fried (roast potatoes) over cooked mushy veg and the roast beef tasted that bad my partner brought it back up when she got home. Avoid at all costs.
