We have visited Cafe Rouge in numerous towns/cities and have found them to offer consistently good value. This was no different. Service good also. I had the moules which were very tasty. Remember to ask for a baguette though so you can mop up the wine and cream. We always have to ask !

Thank tkota

We were on a return visit to Chester and my husband and I had visited this Café on our previous visit and we were so impressed with the service we decided to drop by again.
We were the first customers of the day early on the Friday morning and we were greeted with smiles from the staff and made to feel very welcome.
Marci came along with the menu and we had a lovely chat with her, she said it was nice that we had made a return visit to them, she is a very bubbly person, so cheerful and just happy to chat and advise on any questions regarding their menu.
We had a leisurely breakfast and coffee by which time it was getting busy, we asked if we could reserve a table for a lunch time snack, they were only too delighted, we chose a table of our choice.
On our return later that day, menu suggestions were made, interested in where we had been and general conversation despite the place being very full and busy, Marci was so warm and down to earth. It was then we found ourselves being introduced to The Manager Victoria, a Lithuanian lady, again a lovely lady, such a great smile and warmth, we thoroughly enjoyed a light refreshment before continuing with some retail therapy and said we would drop by the following day for some refreshment!!
We did exactly that and it was extremely busy but Marci and Victoria both made us so welcome and it was not long before we were sat down, this time just to chill with a glass or two of wine before making our way back home..............it had all come and gone far too quickly but these people had made our stay and chill out so much more warming and for that Marci and Victoria and your other staff members too we say a big Thank You and we look forward to sharing your wonderful hospitality on our next visit.

6 months ago, you could be assured of good service and reasonable food at Cafe Rouge.
Not recently.
Yesterday (19th October), breakfast was cold and completely unappetising.
Bacon anaemic and tasteless - more fat than meat.
Toast which was as thin as newspaper and which might have just possibly been pointed in the general direction of a toaster.
Sausages which were a total disaster.
Very small portions however this was not too big an issue as the quality was so poor.
The tea was weak and watery. We asked if an additional teabag could be put into the pot - no problems. Cafe Rouge did so and then charged us for an extra pot of tea.
We spend a lot of time in Chester and the city seems to have cornered the market in clueless, uncaring teenage staff who provide either bad service or no service at all.
Cafe Rouge have gone a stage further by providing similar but by providing the worst kind of food.
Won't be returning here !!

I've been in any number of Cafe Rouge restaurants and you always know you will get decent quality food. Sadly, on this occasion my croque monsieur wasn't up to standard but the waitress was very apologetic when I called her over and it was quickly replaced. It was a wet Friday lunchtime and Chester was very busy but the service was attentive and prompt.

We actually went here for lunch and then, not wanting anything too fancy after several days of eating out, went back for dinner. Got good service both times, but was particularly impressed in the evening with the young lady who was dealing with the whole place on her own - OK, it wasn't particularly busy but that makes for a lot of running around (we saw the manageress pass by a couple of times but she obviously had other things to do). All the same, Neringa (I see from the bill), found time to chat a little.
Clearly this is 'just' a Café Rouge, but we're always impressed with the food which reminds us of how the ordinary small restaurants in France used to be (they still exist, but seem to be less common). Like Rob M, we'd both particularly recommend the Demi Poulet (unlike him we failed to ask for more of the garlic butter sauce), and also the trio of 3 small desserts.
Good food at a good price - pity we didn't go here instead of La Cantina the night before.
