“GOOD LOCATION - SERVICE VERY ORDINARY”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

The location of this hotel is very good - just a short walk from the train station and in the other direction a couple of minutes walk to the centre of town. Plenty of history in this place, so it is quite a nice walk. Lots of pubs and restaurants around the area of the hotel also.

Parking outside of the hotel is not free through the day (only the first hour is free) - however from 6 pm to 8 am it is free. The information on the internet about this hotel is that it has parking available - there is only a few car spaces under the hotel and the hotel charges you 6 pounds per day to park there - and you need to pay up-front. If you leave the carpark (perhaps to do some sight-seeing somewhere) you don't get your car space back (or you might be lucky -depending on how quick you are). So it is a bit hit and miss with the car parking. We came back from our outing around 5 pm, so we got the next hour free to 6 pm parking outside in the street, and so we were able to stay overnight for free.

When we were there, we found the service from the staff here is very poor in all parts of the hotel - the bar, and restaurant, as well as the reception area. We never found this to be the case in any other Premier Inn so were quite shocked at this place. It was very frustrating. The bar area staff seemed to have other things to do even though customers were waiting. Again frustrating.

The room itself was very good - quite large and very comfortable bed/pillow. It was extremely clean and had everything we could have wanted in a hotel room. The internet (free for the first 30 minutes) worked brilliantly. After the 30 minutes you pay through the nose (3 pounds for 24 hours which is quite excessive) Breakfast was very tasty and is buffet style with adequate selections, however on one of the days there was no buffet so we had to wait to be served. It was 20 minutes before anyone came near us - and there was only 4 other tables with customers at the time. So we not too happy about that.

To sum up - this is a great place to stay and is in an ideal location, however parking is a bit of a worry. Hopefully the service has improved by now.

Cant fault this place at all. The location was great. Excellent staff, lovely food, the breakfast was amazing, so much choice, something for every taste and if you want porrege, fish or omelette they cook it for you. We had our evening meal there the first night, sirloin steak and it was cooked to perfection. Its a really nice atmosphere in the restaurant and the bar. Must mention Magda who is a credit to Premier Inn. So professional and friendly and lovely to talk to. Our room as always was spotless and we never heared any noise at all. Our last night we ate out in the Coconut Grove next door, lovely place, theres also quite a few restaraunts in the same road, indian, carabian etc and a nice bar. Looking forward to our next stay.

Stayed there for the weekend with my wife. Was great. Rooms lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. Very tasty breakfast.

As usual you can't go wrong with the Premier Inns.

Nice and close to the city center. Parking is a bit of a problem though with not many parking bays available.

Very well placed for a City Centre visit, the staff were the best we have come across in a Premier Inn and the restaurant was great, good food, well priced. The only downside was parking but we did manage to park at the hotel on one of the days when we couldn't get in at the alternative parking, but that is just a small thing. If you come on the train it is ideally placed.

This Premier Inn is ok. It has the usual decor and the rooms are comfortable. However, it is very noisy from the traffic outside and other guests. Parking is awful so don't bother. The hot buffet breakfast was cold - just not up to the usual standards of this chain.

Great stay clean and bed comfy. Let down by breakfast as fried eggs were hard boiled YOLK solid and not very warm. Toaster did not brown toast after passing through twice. Other than this great location and stay.

Once again an excellent stay.
I have now stayed at this Hotel four times this year on business which has been pleasant experience on every occasion. (I even got in the Car Park this visit - Bonus).
The rooms are slightly smaller than other Premier Inn but nevertheless very clean, tidy and more than acceptable for a good nights sleep. The staff again were very good being friendly and very helpful. The Hotel Location is ideally situated for the City Centre which is 5 minutes walk away. I will be returning in 1 day for a 2 night stay and this time for pleasure and not for business. Looking Forward to it.
