This place is just what you need after a long day. Its so calm chilled out and really takes you back to the days of real pubs before iphones, jukeboxes and noise. The real ales are a must, some great names to raise an eyebrow to, but the taste takes the stress away. The food is good as well, real old english pub grub, pie and mash, etc.

Popped in for a quick lunch time half after finding in the CAMRA guide. Nice selection of ales but a sign on the wall said they had stopped accepting dogs. The pies on the next table looked excellent! Would definitely return to sample those pies however they seem a bit hap-hazard in not taking bookings at all... (according to their blackboard)

We have visited here a few times but this is only the second time we have eaten here. The menu is interesting and the food, although not too fancy, is very good. We had the steak and ale pie, Sausage and mash, and the fish and chips. All were well received and tasty. The bar has an excellent range of hand pulled ales and cider, none of your national brands which is always a good sign. Much more interesting than all the fast food outlets now on the high street these days!

The Real Ales keep disappointing me as i have visited at least four times over the last year and I have never had a decent pint, and they say that they brew it themselves. Food only average with very limited choice on offer.

A really lovely setting in an old fashioned pub - beautiful.

Good beers (I enjoyed the Spitting Feathers - a local beer) and the food was brilliant. The sort of food you wished every pub.

My wife had a beef and ale pie - a proper one, properly made which she raved about.

I had a whole grouse with game chips and a superb bread sauce. The star of the show was an astonishing gravy.

We shared some kale and some cauliflower cheese made with the local Cheshire cheese rather than cheddar. An improvement.

Seasonal (and stuff that isn't always on the menu like grouse, offal etc) great taste, decent pricing and good portions. Only minor downside was a slightly long wait to get our meals but not a big problem.

Wish my local was like this. Just brilliant.
