I've tried a few restaurants in Chester and this time it was a walk in late of an evening, fortunately they were able to accommodate despite being full. The interior is small so tables are fairly close together and as such it can get quite noisy, but overall it's nicely presented and comfortable. We were seated and presented with a seasonal menu which had some great dishes but they are limited if you like lots of choice. For starter we ordered the Pumpkin & sage risotto cakes ‘arancini’ with pumpkin purée and pumpkin seeds. This was perfectly cooked and very well presented, a great seasonal dish and not something I had tried before. The main meals : Seared duck breast with rosti potato, braised red cabbage and carrot & parsnip puree and Smoked mackerel fillet with green bean, apple and pumpkin seed salad were of equally high standard, fresh and well presented. The staff were highly attentive, all in all well worth a visit, great value for money and I would happily recommend to others.

Having managed to get a rare Friday night off work me and my girlfriend managed to get a table at Joseph Benjamin's. Having lived in Chester for nearly two years it's been a place we've been meaning to try but never got round to. We've tried their smaller sister restaurant Porta a few time and really enjoyed the experience. Joseph Benjamin's didn't disappoint either, We both had starter and mains and just about found room to share a cheese board. Cracking wine list with some nice oddities and the service was top notch, nothing too much bother and there when needed. Whether your just visiting Chester or like ourselves live here and haven't got round to it you must go.

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday morning. We ordered one bacon sandwich and one toast and two coffees one being a cappuccino and the other a filter.
The decor was simple and pleasant and we had been greeted promtly and shown to a table of our choice. The coffees arrived approx 15 minutes after ordering, the cappuccino was fine but my filter coffee was small and luke warm. The food arrived some time later, we actually thought that we had been forgotten. When the food did arrive the bacon sandwich was quite substantial but there was no offer of relish. The toasted bread was ok but there was no napkin.
All the staff were very pleasant , there apeared to be plenty of them , so I dont understand why service was so slow. Whilst it was an average experience at around £14.00 I would have liked a
hot coffee and a napkin .

Came here with a group of friends on a busy Friday evening. Lovely atmosphere, efficient & friendly staff.
Not a huge choice on the menu, but the food was beautiful. Better to have a smaller selection & do it well!
Starter's - Shetland mussels, goat's cheese, risotto balls, potted pork all delicious.

Mains courses - Rabbit pie, lovely home made pastry, duck breast, cooked to perfection, the beefburger was so juicy & the chips really lovely with a great home made tomato sauce.

Desserts - Ice cream with amaretto & espresso to die for, sticky toffee pudding, lovely & crème brulee delicious.

Good choice of wines especially by the glass.

All in all, a great night. Just one very, very tiny criticism, a few cushions on the wooden seats would make it even better. This is one of the best restaurants in Chester & I would definitely recommend it. We will be trying their tapas next!

Eight of us ate at this charming restaurant last night and without a single negative comment. That for us is something of a record in itself! I've read a review on this website from someone complaining that the portions are small. Nonsense, the portions are exactly what I would expect at a decent restaurant. The service was pleasant, polite and efficient and always with a smile. The food was in all cases really well presented and beautifully prepared. This was our first visit to Joseph Benjamin but it certainly won't be our last. A big thank you to all the staff for making the night such a huge success.
