We booked this last minute as our normal Chester hotel choice was booked up. The location is ok, about a 15 minute walk from the centre or £4 for a taxi - great to have off street parking and lovely to see a well cared and pretty garden. We had a downstairs room, offered by the proprietor when she saw I currently have a knee problem...the room was fine - comfortable bed, small shower room with a good quality shower and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was nice, cooked fresh - cereal, juice, etc...If we had to look for a negative, then I would say the bedding and decor perhaps needs updating but overall would be happy to stay here again.

My friend and I resided two nights at this guest house. Positives were private parking, very quiet due to location in residential area and helpful owner who gave us information regarding local area, recommendations for eating out and also provided us with complimentary shampoo and conditioner as we had forgotton ours. She also gave us each a hot water bottle upon request for our aches and pains! The room we had was spacious and comfortable.
The negatives were the bed mattresses were a bit lumpy and bed linen could benefit from being updated, I have allergies to dust and feathers and although no feathers were present I sneezed most of the night. The breakfast room was cold. Breakfast was okay. The downside was the establishment did not accept card payment which in this day and age is a bit of a pain if you don't carry large amounts of cash. I would recommend this establishment and it is only a 5 minute walk, to train station connecting to Liverpool.

We had a very friendly welcome and a lot of helpful advice from our host.
The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable.
The cooked breakfast was excellent and my friend enjoyed the delicious vegetarian version.
After we have checked out, the owner was happy for us to leave the car on the car park and walk a short distance to town centre.
We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Chester.

I have never written a negative review before and feel disappointed that I feel the need to do so now.

We stayed at the Green Gables Guesthouse on Saturday 2nd March.

On entering, there was an intense smell of fish which did not leave the whole time we were there!

Our room was very small and very cold. The linen, furniture and decor were very dated.

Breakfast: dining room once again very cold. Choice of a few cereals, no fruit or yoghurts. Cooked breakfast, small but ok. Tea and toast also provided.

We were charged £75 for the small room which had a private bathroom accessed across a large landing! When this rate was queried I was told "the only room I could have offered you was a double with a private bathroom at the usual price of a twin/double room which is £75.00". A 'private bathroom' which is accessed across a landing is certainly not the same as an 'en suite' double, so very confused how the same price is charged!

The only positive I can think to comment on was that there is off street parking.

I am very sorry to say that the Guesthouse most certainly does not deserve the 4 star rating. I would not recommend.

Room Tip: Do not book the double room with 'private' bathroom!

Booked this b&b as green gables through booking.com
When we arrived the landlady Mrs. Dorota Perruzza had the wrong dates (thought we were arriving a week later)?
Anyway sorted us out with a room (there were plenty available) shortly after we both went out for a walk around Chester and to have dinner. We come back early about 9pm as we went out early.
Now must point this out my wife and myself are both smokers (heavy) but always abide by the law and smoke in designated areas. So you can imagine our shock when just before 11pm we where woken by three police officers in our room. They informed us that Mrs. Dorota Perruzza had been in the room when we were asleep (to turn the tv off, by the way, the same one we never switched on) and smelt a strong smell of tobacco and therefor assumed we have been smoking in the room, we absolutely did not smoke in the room whatsoever. The police told us Mrs. Dorota Perruzza did not want to discuss the matter and just wanted us to leave, so we did. What amazed us both is when we went outside there where three police cars outside, bearing in mind this was a Saturday night in Chester quite close to November 5th. I know for a fact that if Mrs. Dorota Perruzza phoned the police saying she wanted two of her guests removing because she thought they had been smoking cigarettes in the room the police would not have attended for sure. So have a think about this. What did this weird twisted woman say to the police in order for three patrol cars to attend and evict us from our bed? If you really do have to stay there make sure you don't smell of tobacco! Have a nice life Mrs. Dorota Perruzza we love you too!

Room Tip: Don't go!

We stayed one night in Chester and thought Green Gables was a lovely house. The room was large with bunk beds for the kids and a nice bathroom. It was very clean and breakfast was very good. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, but it was a bit of a walk into the town center and we felt we needed to take a cab from the train station. There were no restaurants nearby so you had to go into town. The beds were rather lumpy, but over all the room was good. Free WIFI and private car park if you have a car.

Good sized rooms, super friendly service and only a short walk to the town. I stayed here for 3 weeks while working in the area and was able to store my bike in a safe, protected place - they even let me leave it there over the weekends
