Host very welcoming and helpful. The family room was large and comfortable though linen and curtains a bit dated. Shower weak but hot. Great breakfast. House did smell strongly of cooked food on occasion.

We only stayed here for one night as a stopover after spending the day at the Chester Zoo. I wished we could of stayed longer. Our twin room was very quiet, spacious and clean with a smallish but functional en-suite. Although not right in town it was only a 10 - 15 minute casual walk to get there.
Breakfast itself was delicious with plenty of options. (Try the sultana pike-lets if their available - very nice).
One of the things that made our stay at GG so enjoyable was the hospitality of the owner. She was such a kind lady, who seemed to take great pleasure in running her lovely, peaceful guest house and looking after her guests.

My husband booked us in to Green Gables for one night as a stopover on our journey from Ireland, mainly because he was told our family of 6 could all fit in the family room. I later read the reviews and was a bit apprehensive - but needn't have worried at all. The family room had 2 generous single beds, pushed together as a double, decent size bunks and a bed was made up on the floor. We have 4 children, age 12, 11, 9 & 3. The toddler slept in the double with us, the other kids had no problems (although we moved the mattress from the zed-bed onto the floor). There was plenty of room - not overly spacious but we've been more cramped in Holiday Inn interconnecting rooms before. No bath, just shower, but that was fine for us for a night. Breakfast room is small, so tables are small & therefore plates are maybe smaller than average! But we didn't feel cramped, there was a good selection of cereals, fruit etc and the full English was plenty for us. We found the owner very nice, she enquired after the children and checked the sleeping arrangements were OK. It's a little out of the town centre but we drove in & found parking easy enough to get our fish & chips. We all slept well, had a good breakfast & have no complaints (can't comment on heating, it was a mild April evening & we slept with the window open a little - it was certainly quiet enough for that!)

We decided to come to Chester (family of four, two small children) for shopping. When we first arrived the owner let us in but was not very welcoming. As soon as we went into the room, we dropped our bags and were ready to go out. Before we left for the day we put up the radiators in the room to the maximum as the room was absolutely freezing. Then we were off on our shopping trip.

Later that evening when we went back into our room, the room was still cold. My husband went down to ask if they had extra heating (fan heater, etc), they did not have any extra heating and no other solution was given to us. We were left to deal with the cold as it was, and this was a cold winters night. My toddler of 2 and a half and my five year old, could not sleep because they were both cold.

In the morning, we were ready for breakfast, the room for breakfast was very cold also.
When we were packed and ready to vacate my husband wanted to make the comment that we were unhappy with the stay as the room was very cold and no alternative solution was given to us. When he did this, the owner demanded the money for the stay and was very confronting, I was actually a little scared. Then her daughter then came out to see us as well and started to do the same. They then started to fire back with the way they didn't like the fact that my children were making too much noise, and that a complaint was made against us from the people next door to us. This was a lie as no one had stayed in the room next door the night before. This was very insulting, as they both then implied that we were bad parents. Why would any one advertise a family room and not expect a little noise. My children are actually very well behaved!

Overall a very very bad stay. Staff were horrible. Never again would I stay here and I would never recommend this guest house, especially if you have small, young children.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here, you will receive abuse from the owner and the owners daughter!

We stayed for 2 nights in August to visit Chester races. This beautiful Victorian house is in a very quiet residential area, with off-street parking for several cars. The garden gates were locked at night (guests are given a key) for added security. The nearby Liverpool Road offers a regular bus service in and out of Chester, but its only a 15/20 minute walk into the city centre.

We had a comfortable family room (one double bed, plus one single) on the ground floor, with an en-suite shower room. We slept very well in the comfortable bed (yes, the bedding was old-fashioned but it didn't affect our sleep one bit!); the room had plenty of hanging space, tea/coffee facilities and a wall-mounted TV, and everything else we needed.

A hot and tasty Full English Breakfast (with orange juice and choice of cereals) was served in the dining room which was bright and cheery and spotlessly clean. We would have preferred slightly larger plates at breakfast (to be able to add the toast to the breakfast items) but apart from that it was lovely, and served on hot plates which is always good. Breakfast service was excellent.

The family were warm and welcoming and looked after us very well. The cleanliness was outstanding.

For accommodation of this type it was very good, and excellent value. Remember to take a cheque book or cash, as no plastic cards are accepted,

I recently arranged three rooms for my self and colleagues on a business trip to Chester. I can only say that we received nothing but helpful co-operation ( especially in fitting in 3 single guys in 3 separate rooms). Everything spotless, including rooms/showers/linen, and especially the breakfast room. 5 parking places on property really added to equipment and vehicle security.
Mrs.Perruzza could not do enough for us and clearly has spent time and money to give a 4star experience. A quiet location, off main roads, but very central to Chester. Highly recommended.
