The hotel is nearly new so the rooms are still in good condition. We had an Enviable Room, which included a freestanding bath and wash basin in the bedroom as well as a bathroom with shower. The lighting behind the headboard was a nice touch. For some the beds may be a little soft. Both the bedroom and bathroom were large. The bedroom had a cd/mp3 player and LCD tv. The hotel is one quarter of a circular building so half the rooms overlook the centre plaza and the others overlook the main road and racecourse.

The only slightly odd feature is the need to swipe the keycard to access your floor, so you can't access another floor other than the reception or restaurant floors. Also the main lifts do not go down to the car park. There is a separate lift that appears to reach all floors. Car parking is available beneath the hotel in a secure car park. Staff are friendly and helpful.

The Michael Caines restaurant on the 5th floor is excellent. Try the grazing menue and ask the wine waiter to select matching wines. The breakfast is also excellent.

The ground floor Michael Caines bar & grill is also good, but has a limited menue. I recommend both.

Excellent last minute rate, £71, for a comfortable room with excellent bed and bathroom. No comfortable chair however.

Breakfast, at extra cost, was cooked to order and service was excellent; and well priced at £10.

Underground hotel car park also reasonably priced.

Good location for visiting the city centre.

Notwithstanding the hotel itself is of a very good quality, its administrative services are very poor. One month after our staty we still expect the release of the moneys taken as a payment guarantee. Until today and after several phone calls and E-mails the issue is not solved.

We stayed early March on the 'soul on fire' package. A night in a suite, tasting menu ( see restaurant revue), flowers, etc. Hotel location is excellent. Our room, Hyperion, was excellent. Very large, finished to a high standard. Big comfy bed. Very stylish bathroom with incredibly large walk through shower. The only minor quibble was the low level of lighting in the room. Cannot complain about anything else at all.

Room Tip: 6th floor suites for views & space

This is a nice hotel and you will have a comfortable stay here. I have practically lived there since September last year and spent a huge amount of money. However, now race season is starting again in Chester, I find they will not honour my corporate rate on race nights. So yes, great for a weekend, but be careful if you are negotiating for a longer stay........

Perfect location, 2 mins from Chester centre but with views over the river and race course. Hotel was very clean, friendly staff and fantastic room service. I've eaten a few burgers in my time but the michael caines burger available on room service is the best I've ever had. Perfect location for a special weekend away, I went for a desirable room as it was only £15 more so not sure what the standard ones are like.

The hotel is well located on the edge of the city centre. Parking is available under the hotel at a charge of £10 per night. Breakfast is also £10 provided this is booked in advance, which we did on arrival (the hotel attempted to charge us £13.50 when we checked out but rectified this when asked). WIFI is included.

The hotel is very clean and modern but has a functional and clinical feel. The rooms are well appointed. The previous reviewer states that the bedding is 'top quality'. This is not actually the case as I know where it comes from but it is however very comfortable (the mattress is soft and may not be to everyone's preference).

Be aware that in the lift, you can only go to the level of your room using your key card (despite what a member of staff told us), which makes visiting friends/relatives impossible (if you use the stairs, the doors to each level are combination locked so you can only exit to the stairwell and not enter).

I would recommend The Abode though it's far from 'complete luxury' as the website states but more functional, though of a good standard.
