“Fabulous short break”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

Stayed at the Chester Abode for 2 nights Friday, Saturday in April for my husbands birthday. Not the cheapest 4 star in Chester but thought this hotel offered good value for the standard of the room, public areas and excellent service. Prior to arrival the hotel contacted us in the week to check our arrangements and to confirm they had arranged us a room on the 4th floor and overlooking the racecourse, I had requested this when I booked several weeks before. They also arranged us some reserved parking which was a nice touch. Check in was very efficient and friendly and our room was lovely, very clean with a huge bathroom and really comfortable. The views across the racecourse to Wales were great. We didn't take an evening meal at the hotel as Friday night the restaurant was booked for a private event. When we return we will try the restaurant. Breakfast was first rate with excellent and friendly service, very unrushed and nothing too much trouble for the staff who were helpful without being over the top. We did try the cocktail lounge on Saturday late afternoon which was very nice and again good and friendly service. Out and about in Chester we had lunch on Satuday at the Architect pub which is right by the hotel, good atmosphere, friendly and efficient service and nice food and drinks. We had an evening meal on Satuday at the Church, again very enjoyable just a little noisy but it was Saturday night so no complaints really. The hotel is really well located just across from the Courts and a very short walk into town. We will definitely visit again. It would be a lovely place to stay in the summer with lots of outdoor terracing and views across the racecourse to sit and enjoy a drink or something to eat. Finally thanks Abode for making this a special weekend for my husbands's birthday, the little card and chocolate were much appreciated and we had a great time.

Room Tip: We stayed in 417 overlooking racecourse great views

As we were celebrating our first anniversary, my husband treated me to two nights at this hotel. Not only were we celebrating our wedding anniversary but it was also the first time bringing our 3 and half month old baby along with us on a little mini break; therefore we were really looking forward to this special time away.

Our experience at the hotel was extremlly dissappointing, so dissappointing we left in the middle of the night after one night!

Good bits: Convenient underground parking. Clean hotel. Clean room.

Bad bits: For the price we paid the room it very small; however the reason we checked out in the middle of the night was because the room was like a sauna. The bedroom has a wall to floor window overlooking the racecourse which seems like a good idea as you get the nice views, however it acts as a greenhouse when the sun is beaming on it; therefore you would say we should have opened the window to cool the room down or put the air conditioning on, however the windows dont open and the air conditioning wasnt working (from what i have read this is a common problem with this hotel), therefore the three of us were roasting - even at 10.30pm. This heat was something that me and my husband were uncomfortably able to tolerate, however the baby couldn't. We had to strip her down to her nappy when we got to the room yet she was still overheating. She was so adjetated that she was crying histerically, which is very uncommon for her as she is a very happy contented baby. The minute we took her out of the room and took her to a cooler part of the hotel i.e near the lifts, she would stop crying and would act her normal self.

When we got to our room after checking in we had mentioned to the staff that the air conditioning wasnt working and that it needed to be sorted out as the room was very hot in which they said theh would sort it out, however when we got back to the room later that day the room was actually hotter.

To summarise: Not recommended unless you don't mind sweating buckets!

P.S. Check-in was at 2 and our room wasn't ready until 3!

My boyfriend and I spent one night in the Abode hotel on Valentines evening. Prior to our stay we requested a quiet room with a large bed and these requests were granted. The bed was comfortable and the room/bathroom very spacious with a lovely, powerful shower.

The location of the hotel was excellent, only a 10 minute walk to the Chester high street and right next to the race course! So ideal for races time.

We ended our stay with a gorgeous breakfast in the hotel restaurant on the top floor which was delicious - great service! Thank you Abode.

Staying at this hotel is a complete pleasure. The location is great and the staff are friendly and professional. Food from menu and breakfast very good indeed. No hotel in Chester can match the Abode overall.

Quite simply perfect. Comfortable bed, quick internet and a hot & powerful shower. One of the best hotels I have stayed in for a business stay. Will definitely stay here again when I next come back to Chester.
