I went here for a meal with my family where it was very good value for money with tasty food and a good atmosphere. I have also visited for the pub quiz on a Sunday night with my friends which we really enjoyed and won. Definitely worth a visit!

just got back from this hotel (6/1/14) paid extra for the luxury room but don't think its worth it small tv dated decur and noisy as you are right on top of a busy road, the car park is full of dog dirt partly due to the owners own dogs, the good points are the location is great you are just a 5 min walk from the centre of chester and the food is great and good value for money also the staff are all very nice

Room Tip: don't pay any extra for the luxury room (not worth it)

Stayed here July 1998 last time. It is a great pub for a good location into chester and has onsite parking - just park and tell them you have a car in the carpark to get a free pass. About 5 mins walk to Northgate City walls via the subway. Good location to walk around the city walls and to go shopping. Only about 15 mins from the Racecourse to walk. Good food to eat on site if you are tired after walking around. if you have the windows open there was road noise but it is to be expected from a pub located outside the city.

Room Tip: I guess all rooms are similar?

spent a night here for Xmas Markets. Excellant location just five minutes from the centre. Arrived early Sunday morning and reception where excellant, gave us free parking pass for car park so no parking to pay for. Room was lovely big family room with lots of space with a double bed and single and there was another bed that could be put up that we didnt use. Had TV with free view and also DVD player, tea and coffee a plenty with lots of milk and biscuits. Normally only enough for one cup! Everything was really clean and plenty of extra pillows. Bathroom was lovely and clean with toiletries. We did eat in the evening but the food was pretty basic pub grub and if stopped again would probably eat somewhere else but the breakfast we got up to was lovely and freshly made to order. If you are going to Chester would recommend this hotel as so close to everything with pleasant staff and would definately stop here again. Ignore the bad reviews.

Room Tip: Room we had was on first floor and you could not here any noise at all.

Stayed one night. Visiting daughter at Chester Uni. Booked a triple room for myself, husband and son. Room clean, beds comfortable. A bit dated. Stayed Saturday night - noise from street (but on a main road, so noise from cars and returning students - to be expected). Breakfast good. No shower gel in bathroom and no phone, so had to get dressed to go and find some, then get undressed for shower, no hairdryer. Tea and coffee making facilities + nice biscuits.Had lunch there on the Sat, when we arrived - very obviously microwaved.
Overall ok, would stay again as it is 2 mins from daughters accommodation and close to center.

This pub/inn is situated close to town just outside the city walls.
our room was small but adequate, Its a bit unfair for people to book a room in a town centre pub and then complain about road noise and customer noise.
Breakfast was poor, hot water for tea/coffee was in a communal flask and wasn't very hot.
We probably wouldn't stay here again, but if you are just looking for somewhere to get your head down close to town, then this spot will suffice .

A bit of a strange stay, in all honesty.
The positives first of all. The pub/hotel is very convenient to access the centre of Chester, is easy to get to and the bed in the luxury room we booked was very comfortable.
For the money we paid though, and considering it was the luxury room we booked, that's about it.
The room itself looked tired, we couldn't close one of the windows and you could smell food cooking when you were in the bathroom. When accessing the hotel part of the building you had to go via the back entrance, which also had a strong and unpleasant smell of food.
We stayed for two nights and the milk and sugar hadn't been replenished on the second day.
The Wifi we were told we could access in every room didn't work - the network couldn't be picked up from anywhere in the luxury room. We asked about this and were given a rather blasé response by the manager.
The breakfast in the morning was fine, although a menu would have been nice,
It's also a very, very noisy hotel to stay in! While I appreciate the pub part of the business has to thrive, the karaoke went on until midnight which left parts of our room shaking, it was that loud. It doesn't appear the hotel part of the business is as important as the pub section.
Would we stay here again? No.
If you like strong smelling cooking food when in the bathroom, loud music until the early hours and not being able to access the advertised Wifi, this is the place for you.
