“No room even though we'd booked one!”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

We arrived here on Friday after a 2 and a half hour trip from Sheffield. I had booked our room through late rooms on January 1st, 2 months earlier. Was told by reception that they had no booking in our name, which when we investigated with late rooms, our booking was valid and it was the hotel that had doubled booked our room. Manageress was sent down to try and offer us a family room, even though we had booked a luxury double bedroom just for me and my hubby. Apparently the family room is luxury too, don't know where in hell they got that idea from it was filthy!! Dirty stained carpet, freezing cold and a bathroom full of mould. Needless to say we rejected the offer of the room and was left to find alternative accommodation through no fault of our own!

Room Tip: A tip to help travellers choose a good room......don't book here!!

Bit of an effort for them to book you in, inconvenience is the word I'm looking for. Anyway booked in. Harry potters cupboard, 1 foot of room all round the bed. Dusty dirty room and bathroom with mould and grime. Just unclean and unloved room. TV didn't work properly through a cheap free view box. Went for breakfast at 7 as they start serving at 7. Staff stood outside smoking. No lights on in bar area(yet) I asked. Thought you did breakfast at 7. Yes we do. Shouldn't they be in there at the latest half six preparing getting ready to welcome guests.. This is yet another dump of a place that wants the money bu doesn't want to provide a service. Not for me.

Stayed at the George and Dragon for one evening. On arrival we were greeted by a polite member of staff who gave us our key. Parking was free which was a bonus. The room was simple but clean and spacious. The shower was powerful and hot, and there was an extra pillow for the bed. We had no issue with noise and the bed was comfortable so no issues with a good night sleep! We both had a cooked breakfast which was fine, tea and coffee available with cereal and orange juice. The location is brilliant for the centre of chester, we walked in in about ten minutes. All in all a decent place to sleep for a fair price!

We stayed here in Jan 2014 for a night. We booked this hotel due to the convenient location, it took us approx. 5 mins to the nearest restaurants and bars, yet 10-15 mins to the main shopping strip.
The hotel room was clean and comfortable, hardly the height of modern living, but you wont get this in Chester for £70 a night. The room was good enough for us and a 1 night stay. The room had everything we needed. When he entered the rooms the windows had been left open and it was freezing, however when we turned on the radiators it soon changed into a little sauna!
The breakfast was lovely and there was pretty much anything you wanted.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Another bonus was the parking, we checked in and were given a parking permit.
The drinks were very reasonable and the food looked good, although we only eat the breakfast,
The only small negative was the noise, we went to bed quite early and could hear the music from the pub. This wasn't a problem for us and if you book to stay in a pub/hotel, then its to be expected.
Overall , a good hotel and would return!

Arrived there for a weekend in Chester to a not very welcoming staff. The bar area & hotel is very shabby and needs a good clean. The food is typical poor pub grub OK if you like chips.
The room was lacking in vital items such as a plug for the bath & sink, a bedside light and hairdryer which was advertised. There was the health & safety aspect of the lights being by the door and you had to switch them off before going two steps down to the bed in darkness (accident waiting to happen) so we had the curtain open so we could see via a street light hence the comment no bedside light. Beds very uncomfortable and room not very clean, very disappointed for the money paid and would never recommend.

Stayed here with my husband for 1 night, and another couple so we had 2 double rooms, room 27 was comfortable but basic and could do with a revamp, the rooms were clean and the shower was great. Room 22 again was small but comfortable and basic, there was a problem with the toilet as it wouldn't flush. Staff were very helpful, and cheerful, food was of good pub quality and good prices, we had full English breakfast and to be honest was as good as any full English I have had anywhere, yes hot water is in a thermos but it was very hot and didn't find it a problem really. Overall it is a comfortable place to stay, and only 10 minute walk to centre of Chester.

I went here for a meal with my family where it was very good value for money with tasty food and a good atmosphere. I have also visited for the pub quiz on a Sunday night with my friends which we really enjoyed and won. Definitely worth a visit!
