Description: Located on the bank of the river Dee at a spot known locally as the Groves, in the the heart of the historic city of Chester. We are fanatical about flames; silly about smokers and utterly obsessed with the smells, tastes and traditions of the Deep South. Our smokin' hot menu is available all day every day, from smokehouse classics including ribs, Texas style beef brisket, to steak and burgers. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and a specially designed kids menu that includes ‘grown-up’ tastes and some fun healthy options, the entire family can experience the flavours of the deep South.

Not sure what all the hype is about?

The food was of poor quality and ribs were still on the pink side.

We sat at the 'chef's table' which confirmed to us that it was fast food at premium prices and non of it being home made but pre packed in a warming oven ready to open the packet and serve!

And as for the toilets - filthy, vile and smelly.

Couldn't wait to get out if here and you got it- will not be returning!

Called in for lunch, first time at this restaurant. So may just have ordered the wrong thing, ordered brisket which came on a skillet with barbecue sauce, thought a small portion of brisket for the price and was quite fatty. Fries were nice as was the coleslaw. Service was good, was an issue with my wife's dish was resolved immediately by the waitress. Lovely setting on the banks of the Dee

Maybe we've been spoilt by our visits to the US and experiencing the real thing, but we found Hickory's underwhelming.
We passed the restaurant earlier in the day and it was very busy, so we thought we'd return in the evening and give it a shot. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. We had drinks at the bar while waiting for a table which become available in about the time they said. Nice table by the window overlooking the river, got our popcorn and water while we reviewed the menu. All good so far.... it's just that when the food arrived it was just so bland... the special bbq sauce was only ok.
I guess just not for us, but I can see why others rate it so highly.

We went to Hickory's after a day trip to Chester Zoo and I have to tell you, the food in here was the highlight of the day. Absolutely outstanding. We've ordered some nachos for starter and it was one of the best food experiences I've ever had. We've both ordered fajitas for main and they were brilliant. Portions are big enough to make you hate yourself at the end of the meal.

The restaurant was very busy, no free table so we've sat at the bar running alongside kitchen. Somewhat open but it was still comfy. Do book a table though, otherwise you're looking at half an hour wait!

Can't fault the service either, they were with you exactly when needed.
Good value for money too, £30 for big meal for two.

Not a place for romantic supper but, good God, what amazing food!

Popped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised as to how things have changed here since the last owners. The drinks were fresh and cold, authentic American ale! The chicken starter was tender and tasty. The main of pork served in a mess tin with beans was tasty and filling. There was alot of salt in this dish which i could have done without, but bearable! All in all i thought it was a good night out!!
