We recently had a KGB weekend deal at Rowton Hall Hotel. The voucher stated 'junior suite', and, if this is what we were allocated, it was a rather small room on the second floor with no lift... However, the room was clean and comfortable, albeit quite small. The bedroom furnishings were a little old & dated, but the towels & robes were good. Our treatments in the spa were ok, and dinner on the first night Friday 5th April) was very good. As others have stated- drinks are over-priced. Coffee in the lounge was hilarious- served by a very young man holding the tops of two cups (no saucers) and slopped down the sides! A more senior person did, however, resolve this misdemeanor and serve jugs of coffee with cups & saucers. There was no hot water on the Sunday morning, and the cereal & fruit buffet was a bit lacking- had to ask for refills of fruit salad, etc. The buffet would have benefited from the addition of granola, nuts and seeds.
All-in-all, quite a pleasant stay, but slight improvements to room furnishings, room size, drinks prices and breakfast buffet would make it even better.

I stayed here for two nights for my daughter's wedding. The wedding arrangements were faultless and the wedding breakfast and canapés were of high quality. The master of ceremonies was not intrusive and did a good job and disappeared as soon as the speeches were completed

The hotels situation is of a really typical country house hotel in its own grounds which were very nicely kept. It was reached by going up a fairly narrow potholed road. The rooms are all a little quirky, being an old house, but all were well modernised with all the expected facilities including free Wi Fi, tea and coffee making, flat screen TV etc . My daughter's suite was fantastic with three TVs , even one in the bathroom!! We had to put up with an executive double but we were not the star attraction. The hotel was very clean and nicely kept again in the style of a very pleasant country house. Quite a few took advantage of the swimming pool and Spa and seemed to enjoy the facilities

I did find the plumbing to be a little eccentric as you had to run the water a little until the brown colour and black sediment stopped. (I did think that first cup of coffee tasted a little different!) Also I could not get the shower to work properly. It flowed well enough but I could not control the temperature. I was also woken up by the noise of next door's shower which had a piercing, whistling effect on the pipes behind my bed as I tried to sleep (I needed to get up but his was not the wake up call I expected.

The breakfasts were very good with a better than average choice. I always judge a fried breakfast by the quality of the sausages and these were excellent. Many of our party commented on the £1.50 extra for smoked salmon and scrambled eggs as being a little unnecessary especially as the normal breakfast cost £12.50 and if you were having the smoked salmon you were not consuming any of the rest of the excellent breakfast fare.

On arrival we were met by our other daughter complaining that due to other weddings over the weekend that drink supplies were low and they had run out of draught cider. They resorted to bottled cider at £5 a bottle. I paid over £12 for a glass of wine, a pint of beer and a pumped Coke - a small bottle of water was £2.50 and wine £5.75 a glass. Hotels in these type of situations have a captive market and tend to exploit it.

The receptionists were fine but need to give better directions to the rooms. We were on the top floor but our directions were "up the stairs" Once up the stairs there are no other room signs so we had to ask a member of staff on the second floor where our room was! Also our bill was wrong with two different accommodation charges for the two nights but that was quickly sorted. It was interesting to note the wide variation in charges as our other daughter paid £20 a night less than we did and others paid considerably more.

I thoroughly recommend it as a wedding venue but would think twice about staying here again just for a break.

Room Tip: Ask for proper directions to your room as the internal room signage is poor

Thank you for your review and we are delighted that your daughter had a wonderful wedding day here at Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa.

With regards to our drink prices we are in line with the other 4 star hotels in Chester and in fact cheaper than some.

Regarding your plumbing issues this has raised great concern for us as the water heating system for the bedrooms is less than 3 months old, so we would very much like to know which room you stayed in so that we can identify what has happened to the system.

We do look forward hearing from you soon and very much look forward welcoming you and your family back to Rowton Hall Hotel and Spa.

First time using a discount voucher for a spa break but all went well! KGB - if you wanted to know!

This really is a superb place to go and chill out, we both have very stressful jobs and were looking for a weekend break.

On arrival we had a good look round and bumped into the owner who was very friendly and interested in chatting.

If you stay at Rowton please please eat in the restaurant it was beautiful food with very friendly waiters willing to serve. We enjoye the set menu which was an absolute bargin (20quid) the food only was worth double! The breakfast was as good and although its a spa hotel the fry up was top notch.

The room was lovely, finished to a good standard and had a very comfy bed, lovely bathroom with the addition of the TV, what more could you ask for...... Oh and great Tea and Coffee facilitates.

Now for the spa, okay we were stayin midweek but we had the swimming pool and jacuzzi to ourselves...lovely. This spa is run as a country club so you will have members attending, but we joined in with a little aqua aerobics which was great fun. Inclusive in te deal we had a couple treatment, a choice of an hour back neck massage or a facial or a mix of the two. This was done without asking in a couples room so we could enjoy the treatments together. The spa staff were very friendly and very good at their job.

Overall a fantastic trip and beautiful place to stay, we will look to stay again ASAP!
