“Lovely hotel - more than lived up to our expections”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

I have just enjoyed a beautiful mid week break at this lovely hotel and can honestly say “It more than lived up to my expectations”.

We’d already received an insight on the hotels excellent customer service when we made the booking and the wheels were put in motion to meet our request for a ground floor room that was bright and spacious as I’d be staying at this hotel with my mother who is 82 years young but has mobility difficulties.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and Becky who gave us the option of 2 ground floor rooms (one with a bath and one with a walk-in shower – to ensure they were able to meet my mother’s mobility needs) We opted for the room with a bath. It was lovely to find out that Becky was the owner of this hotel, and witness first-hand her hands-on approach with her guests. We could see her enthusiasm as she chatted about the hotel and the keen interest she takes in ensuring her guests enjoyed their time at Rowton Hall.

Our room (50) was on the ground floor. This room is large. As you open the door you walk into an entrance area with built-in wardrobes that also contains your security safe. The door ahead leads to the bathroom. To the right is the bedroom which patio doors that look out onto the conservatory and side garden. The room was ideal for us. It was bright and spacious as we’d requested. The twin beds and the 2 armchairs were really comfortable. The central heating was adjustable and we made use of the fan provided, when needed. There was free Wi-Fi access, well-stocked tea/coffee facilities and plenty of storage for our belongings.

I persuaded my mother to join me in using the spa pool facilities. The pool staff were excellent and as mum was hesitant at going into a swimming pool for the first time in nearly 20 years, they offered her the use of a selection of floating aides should she need them. We went on to enjoy the pool, Jacuzzi area and sauna room. The changing room facilities here are of a high standard. Spotlessly clean and we loved the little touch of providing bags to put your wet swimwear in.

Our stay was B&B but we chose to dine in the restaurant. This entitled us to complimentary wine with our meal. We opted for the £25 for 3 courses which was great value for money. The food was absolutely delicious and the wine provided (we opted for white) was enjoyable too. The 2 guys who looked after us – were both friendly and attentive without being too overbearing (sorry I didn’t get their names) and when we decided to have our desserts back in our room – they happily arranged this for us. Offering to bring us tea and coffee too if we wished. The desserts were delivered to our room, within 10 minutes as they’d promised.

We could have used the hotel lounge facilities but chose instead to watch TV and relax in our lovely room (with i-pad and kindle) before bedtime.

Breakfast next morning was in the Restaurant. Once again the staff were friendly and attentive. It was self service for cereals, yoghurts, fruit juice etc with waitress service for tea/coffee, toast and cooked breakfast brought to you without any fuss. The waitress looking after us was very busy but ensured all her guests were served in the same friendly manner and none of us were kept waiting or wanting for anything.

Stephanie in the spa had made arrangements for mum and I to have our spa treatment together, and because of my mother’s mobility difficulties, arrangements were made for us to have our spa treatment in a ground floor bedroom, as the spa rooms are all on the first floor. Emily and Leah came to our room personally to collect us and take us to the room next door which they’d set up for our spa treatment (we’d both requested back massages). The hotel had actually removed the beds from that room and set up 2 therapy beds in their place. The ambiance was lovely with curtains closed, scented candles burning and relaxation music playing softly in the background. Emily and Leah provided lovely back massages, leaving us thoroughly relaxed afterwards. (We both decided the spa treatment was the “icing on the cake” of our fantastic mini-break and had we known how good it would be – wished we’d booked in more than one treatment each)

We had requested late check-out up to 1pm, so we chose to return to our room after our spa treatment and chill-out for a while, though we could have returned to the spa pool/sauna or relaxed in the spa coffee shop, the hotel lounges or spacious conservatory had we wished.
Well done to everyone at Rownton Hall Hotel & Spa – you made our stay with you “one to remember”. Everyone was so friendly and helpful from start to finish – even the guy who took my cases from me as we were leaving and put them in the car for me. You have all provided both mum and I some many happy memories. Thank you.

I will be keeping a look out for your voucher offers again. I will definitely be returning to enjoy Rowton Hall in the near future.

We stayed for one night and although there was a wedding on the day (we were the only guests who were not at the wedding!).we had a very pleasant stay. Service was good from start to finish with a phone call before hand saying about the wedding and did we want to rearrange.

Our booking was a Groupon deal which was great value for money with a lovely evening meal (only ones in the restaurant) and reasonably priced wine.

Room was well appointed although bathroom was a bit on the small side, shower was good. Room felt a bit hot despite turning radiator down but still slept very well in a comfortable bed.

We took advantage of breakfast in the room which was excellent with a full cooked available and a tray charge of £5 very reasonable.

Would stay again at this lovely hotel.

I have just booked to stay at this hotel next week and already I am impressed with the customer service at reception and the spa.
In particular....Stephanie at the Spa has been lovely - she's organised our spa treatments and quickly followed up my request for late checkout and a bright spacious ground floor room with views as I will be staying at the hotel with my mum whose disabled and 82 years young!
The postive reviews and tips on this site have been really useful. Looking forward to staying here and feeling confident that we'll be adding a further positive review afterwards.

stayed here with my sister on a sunday, hotel was very nice, staff very friendly and nice. Old charm of hotel, but my room needed a little updating and tidying up. However my sisters room was very spacious and clean.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal at this delightful hotel. The standard of the food and service was of the highest order. The menu was excellent and chef produced some quite unusual and individual dishes which were superb. From the moment we arrived at this beautiful hotel to the moment we left, the service was friendly and attentive and quite candidly, we could not think of a single negative point.
Very highly recommended.

We booked an offer through secret Escapes for a one night stay. The hotel as you drive in doesnt look like the photos you see on the website but that is because the pictures were taken from the back. We couldnt get onto the main carpark but there is an overspill carpark which was really muddy. we managed to cut through onto the main carpark through the trees. The hotel reception was nice enough and the rest of the hotel was lovely and cosy. Our room was very nice with tea making facilities. The shower however did need regrouting in places which is always the first thing I notice when staying anywhere. But the room was spotless. We did use the indoor pool and did have a spa treatment the following morning, couldnt fault this in anyway. We ate in the restaurant at night where there was set 3 course meal, the food was lovely really tasty and the staff were so pleasant & helpful. All in all really enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: ask for a room if available overlooking the conservatory as the views are lovely

I am very, very disappointed with this hotel. My partner & I spent Xmas here and it was not good. The staff were mostly friendly but inefficient & disorganised, the food on Xmas Day poor - parts of the lunch were inedible, eg a hockey puck of a Xmas pudding and missing parts of the main course that we had to ask for! The gardens were frankly appalling - shabby doesn't begin to describe how poor they were (other hotels in the area had much nicer gardens so it wasn't that it was winter time). The Lichfield Suite was nice but no more than that. Yes, it was spacious but it was dark/gloomy, had no view at all - it looked out across the goods delivery area and to the staff quarters - so the lights had to be kept on and the curtains closed the whole time, plus there was no view at all and being on the ground floor the people above were noisily obvious on a constant basis. Unless you really need a ground floor suite avoid the Lichfield and choose one of the other two. What makes it worse is that we were leaning towards one of the other suites but hotel staff said of the remaining two Lichfield was better; also when we first rang we were told the Byron was avialable and nearly booked it - then a few minutes later tried to book it to be told it wasn't available after all!? Another gripe about the Xmas package is that the hotel ran two quizzes with prizes and then didn't bother giving out any prizes or announcing who had won - it just fizzled out! This was just typical of the attitude during our time there - very happy to take our money well in advance but the service provided was lacking and below the standard we had paid for. Very, very disappointing to say the least!

Room Tip: Lichfield Suite - opt for this only if ground floor location is a must have; no views at all; dark/g...
